Colony Chinese Restaurant

We bought takeaway here on a night when the dining room was closed. It was also the night all internet services on the island went down and the poor people running the restaurant could not offer eftpos or credit card services so it was all a little mad, but after a long wait the food was very pleasant.

The Colony Chinese Restuarant has friendly staff and reasonably good food. They have been operating in Norfolk Island for a few decades as a real good alternative meal from the majority of the other restaurants.These days the restaurant part, which is quite a nice room is not open and hasn't been for some time. Only the Takeaway part is operational. Which is sad and a shame.I believe a lack of staff maybe the main issue. Even the takeaway component struggles to keep up to promised times. You need to ring an order several hours earlier but you will be lucky if it comes out on time. Often there is a long wait.Again the staff numbers are inadequate to keep up with the demands. It is a popular outlet with locals and tourists again as it provides an alternative cuisine to some of the others. Whilst the food is good taste wise, certainly not worth booking 2 hours ahead and then standing in the queue waiting for another hour.So good food and worth tasting and eating but be prepared to wait.

I visited this restaurant multiple times and each time I tried to dine in, it was unexpectedly closed and only offering takeout, even though the "open" sign was displayed outside.

Very quiet little cafe with friendly and obliging staff. Lovely meal, good and fast service at a great price.

Although take away only provided these days, what an authentic, sensational meal we enjoyed! The so fresh veges from the chef's own garden gave the most wonderful flavour to the dishes we chose.
