Hilli Restaurant & Cafe

This was the second highlight of my trip to Norfolk Island,coming straight out of the Cyclorama 3D experience[First highlight] ,to a delightful Devonshire style tea[ scone and coffee] for a very reasonable $9.00.[the chit for viewing the 3D ,gives a discount in Hilli Restaurant & Cafe. Not just for the day but for any days and meals etc .just present the blue chit]I enjoyed this treat quite a lot in my weeks stay ,also had one of the best steak meals on the Island ,also at a reasonable price.Staff were very friendly,capable and premises were very clean.

First up it is adjacent to the wonderful Queen Victoria Gardens, and the Cyclorama and gorgeous Guava Gallery. Lots to experience here. The owner was so welcoming to our small group, she was run off her feet with a large roll up all at once, however she was so personal and obvious in her attentiveness to all patrons. She was a stand out in her personal approach. The food was outstanding in presentation and in taste. Soup of the day with home baked bread served on a lovely ploughman style cheese board. The next visit was for Devonshire tea, alone and boy was I glad I only ordered 1 scone, because it was so large, delicious however the delights continue with presentation of extraordinary artistic pleasure. Taste scrumptious, generous servings of jam and cream. Wicked and Pleasing. Pot of tea with scone gorgeous.Sadly the next visit was upon opening, where a Canadian woman without the same enthusiasm as prior service providers, greeted our small group. Of course we were aware to give her a few minutes to arrange herself for the 10.00 a.m. Saturday morning opening time. So we chose a table and lapped up the sunshine and birds in the garden. After deciding on scones and coffee this time, it was an enormous disappointment, to be served coffee that was the worst coffee we have been served across the oceans, and across thousands of klm's, the coffee cup was half filled, with air bubbles in a rapid state of dissolving to reveal what looked like dishwashing water residue. Taking the coffees back, the Canadian Dame decided to advise me that the service of the cappuccino was that style and that is the way it is served. { Absolute dia tribe, and you do your employer a huge disservice if you continue to be relied upon to promote and present this gorgeous restaurant to visitors} I cannot help but wonder if anyone is actually monitoring her service style and manner. The coffee was tasteless and it held no texture of how milk should be professionally presented in any style of coffee service. 0 out of 10 for effort, 0 out of 10 for service, 0 out of 10 for manners. But perhaps you might be fortunate and find someone else on service. Hoping so because it is worth while to eat here often. The gardens and the hospitality combined were pleasing.

Relaxing surroundings whether you sit in amongst the gardens in the warm sunshine or inside the smallish restaurant. The service and food is among the top 5 on the Island. Situated right next to Cyclorama and you even get a discount on your coffees with your entry ticket.

Had dinner here on our first night on Norfolk and had difficulty finding a meal that was as good on the rest of our holiday. Justine and her staff provided an excellent meal and an awesome atmosphere.

We celebrate an anniversary at Hilli restaurant and couldn't have picked a better place to do it. Being an ex muso I loved the music selection and the warm atmosphere that went with it. Food was exceptional as was the service. The staff went out of their way to make your visit memorable. Was a bit pricey but that's probably our choice. We'll do to all.
