When the Chef is also the owner, you can never go wrong. Passionate about quality food and it shows. Loved our meals while staying at the Auberge. So well done!! View all feedback.
We were pleasantly surprised to find such gourmet food in this small town, but Heiko delivered! The best food we had the whole trip.
What a wonderfully pleasant guest house. The owners were filled with suggestions. the room was clean, the breakfast was filled. They let us use their washing machine with the explanation: “What is ours is yours.” Absolutely a great place.
The best part was Heiko's culinary expertise. He is a graduate from the world-renowned George Brown culinary school in Toronto and has been a chef for 35 years. This was evident in the delicious menu offerings. We started with a special smoked ham with cheddar soup, garlic butter-soaked escargots, and crusty homemade bread. My husband had the BBQ smoked salmon, and I had the pickerel – both were large portions, delicious, and beautifully presented. We enjoyed the house wine by the glass and lattes to finish off our wonderful meal. The auberge had a separate garage to store our recumbent trikes and trailer, and we were given our own key. After a restful sleep, we enjoyed a buffet-style breakfast in the dining room at 8am. There were interesting cold choices such as summer sausage from St. Jacobs in Ontario, as well as fresh fruit and make-your-own toast. Heiko also offered omelettes with various ingredients, and there was hot tea and coffee available. As we said our goodbyes, Heiko even gave my husband more slices of his now favorite sausage. Don't miss out on this place – be sure to book early. You don't have to arrive on a bike to enjoy this exceptional experience. Bon appétit!
We had the pleasure of dining at the Ile de France last week during our cycling trip on the Petit Train du Nord trail from Mont Laurier to St. Jerome in Quebec Province. Eleven of us ate from the 6 course menu and all enjoyed our meals tremendously. The food and service was excellent and the prices reasonable, The restaurant is less than a quarter mile from the bike trail, just across the street from the Auberge de la Vielle Gare where we spent the night. Don’t miss this!
Stayed and ate here on a bike trip with 6 other friends. Excellent dining and personal service in little Nominingue. Everyone in our group loved their meal and the experience. Chef/owner Heiko serves world class food, with fun personal touch! Heiko came out and gave his personal recommendations. Every course was excellent. Co-owner Nancy, and our waiter Stefan made us feel like family! Definitely a must do!
