What Jake Laakso doesn't like about Auberge Villa Bellerive:

Well, nearly. When we booked, we learned that they no longer provide a supper, however local publications advised that they did.We stopped here for one night while cycling the Petit Train du Nord trail, which runs right past the Auberge. We had a large room with kitchen facilities on the topmost floor, which had a great view (although my knees creaked from riding all day then climbing the stairs.) The bathroom was recently renewed and was very nice. The bed was comfortable, the TV and AC worked, there was a bike rack for our bicycles and proprietor Ivan was friendly and helpful. We did ride back to town to shop for food, then took advantage of the kitchen facilities. The old place is likely under permanent renovations, they still make breakfast upon request, but we had a good stay and would return.
My wife and I had planned a special weekend in the town. We had booked but when we got there their occupancy was full. They were kind enough to refund our deposit, but needless to say we were more than slightly inconvenienced driving into town and at 9pm we had to look elsewhere for a place?! How can they mess up a reservation I have no idea. Needless to say we will never step foot in that hotel again.
The hotel is old. It has a lot of history. Some of the rooms have been renovated, but not all the rooms, certainly not the one we stayed in. The beds were advertised as two queen beds with a lake view. When in reality we got 2 double beds with a corner view of the lake but with mostly trees blocking our view. This is a place you don't go soley for the rooms or food. You go for the scenery and the beautiful lake views. There are georgeous views of the lake and the whole area on the terasse in the back. There is a dock right at the hotel but it's just for docking boats. The hotel needs a LOT of love but has so much potential. We rented two kayaks for the day and took them out and around the lakes. The only thing we didn't like was that we had to clean out all the spiders in them and and take them out of storage ourselves. Aside from that it, was a pleasant stay. The owner Yvonne is very friendly and was happy to help us when we had any questions or suggestions. They offer breakfast for $12.50/person and it's not bad at all. Still, over priced compared the breakfast restaurants in town. The restaurants in town are decent for fine dining, only 5 mins drive from the hotel and surprisingly a lot of the hotel and restaurant staff are bliningual, which was a pleasant surprise.
We stayed here several years ago and again last week. My how times change. The former lovely dining room is now the owner's living quarters so dinner is unavailable on site ('though you can get a free drive to a nearby golf course for a multi-course meal but no view.) Full breakfast is still served up--hot and delicious at waterside! Some rooms have been renovated, others in the process so prices vary. The pool needed skimming and I actually rescued a sickly frog from the pool ladder. Hot tub has great views of the lake and is a welcome relief for cyclists. The grounds were not well kept, construction materials lying about, missing plants in planters, carmats drying on the benches out front, ladders to the lake rather tipsy, etc..This was a disappointing visit to a place with superb location, marvellous views and so much potential. Maybe it's a work in progress, maybe next time, or not.

(between the 142 and 143 km marker). After the first day, I was already planning my next trip. imagine this place in the fall. WOW!
