Angelito just reopened for the short summer season. Very nice setting with interior open Patio and friendly service. Excellent quality fish and seafood products. The cooking level depends on the Chef they hire for the season and what you order. Over all good experience and good location just next to Playa America. José Campo, CHA
Tonight i visited Angelito restaurant in Nigran, it looked promising. Lovely location and a very pretty building which had an impressive little central courtyard. We have walked past several times and we thought it was a good choice for a anniversary dinner. However, the food was terrible, perhaps the single worst meal of my life. I have literally signed up to tripdvisor to vent my disappointment at this place. The chipperones or fried baby squid were fried in old oil and tasted like the scrapings of carbon. They had seen not a grain of salt nor had the been cleaned. Fried Sardines suffered the same fate, thrown into the same deep frier. We got 6 tiny sardines of finger length for 6 euro. No seasoning again whatsover. Almejas are the best damn thing in the sea for me, little clams sweeter than mussels but with an ondine flavour that surpasses lobster, here coated in a sickly sweet, gloopy sauce that had the consistency of chinese sweet and sour sauce from that chinese takeaway in town that you tried once and will never use again. 15 euros for about 150 grams , cost price per kilo is about 6 to 7 euro. Overcooked and gritty. Last but not least was the Merluza a la Gallego, A great classic dish and one that can rival all the great fish stews if done correctly. The Hake was mushy, i presume it was pre steamed, the sauce was vapid and tasted of dishwater. The lone giant steamed potato was raw and had clearly been steamed last week. The pimento garnish was literally a few slices of boiled pepper. Once again, no salt.....or love. Left entirely uneaten but left on the bill.
Angelito is one of my favorite restaurants in this area. The open Patio sitting area under two century old trees is a real pleasure. Despite a couple of glitches in recent previous visits, in general they have an excellent product, specially in fresh fish and seafood. Today's lunch appetizers and main courses were perfect. Excellent service provided by attendant Esther. It is about $50.00 dollars per person including wine and tip. Good value for money. They close September 10th till next season some time in June, and plan to return before they close. One recommendation for ownership if they read these comments: The Handsdrier in the men's restroom is a cheap and inefficient model. Please get a modern and efficient model like they have at airports, it is annoying. Congralatulations to the Chef, Esther and Management. José Campo, CHA.
Angelito is one of the classics in Playa America. Open only in the summer. Very nice open Terrace, and good quality products, however, the kitchen needs fine tuning, not always at the top. Had fresh Xouvinas fritas which were excellent, Zamburinas which were very good, but a touch over cooked. Cola de merluza a la plancha, half of it excellent, the other half slightly over cooked. Costilla de ternera, large portion, well presented ,but like most meats in Spain are tough. Aged meats are not common here. Enjoyed a bottle of godello Louro, and service was excellent. Will return but with some hesitation. José Campo, CHA
If you ever have the opportunity to visit galicia then this restaurant must be high on your to do list. This is our 3rd visit to this restaurant and we keep coming back. The tapas seafood is the best we have ever had. There is a great choice very good service and attention to detail. When we return to Ireland we will dream of when we can come back for the baby grilled scallops.
