I live in Italy and I must admit that this is one of the best Italian restaurants I found abroad. Excellent food and not prohibitive as it is often the case if you want a good meal in Nice. View all feedback.
What John Johari doesn't like about Portovenere:
We were so excited about going to dinner here! We tried to make reservations one night and they booked so we made them the following night. When we got there we were seated at a nice table and the waitress took our drink order. She came back (without water or wine) a few moments later and took our dinner order. Dinner came out within five minutes before we got our drinks. (The local people around us didn't seem to ha... View all feedback.
Friendly service. Great sea food with perfect wine combination. Excellent coffee. We will come again.
Had a reservation at Portovenere for our first night in Nice. Our experience was so good that we ate here two more times during our three day stay in Nice. The food was delicious and, as a coeliac vegetarian, it was so good to have delicious and safe gluten free choices available. I tried the mushroom pasta, mushroom risotto, the tomato and basil spaghetti and, of course, the delicious homemade pavlova (a few times!! Our waitress was helpful, welcoming, kind and funny. We ate outside and it was warm and sheltered. Would highly recommend this restaurant and cannot wait to return the next time I am in Nice.
It seems like this restaurant is trying to win a prize for the unfriendliest service ever. We were really excited to try the food but the waitress didnt even bother to talk to us to find a seat. Other people got rushed to leave their tables too. If i could give 0 stars I would gladly do so.
We were having drinks on a very touristy street just off the beach promenade and our waitress recommended Portovenere as the best restaurant around. We had beef carpaccio as starter (this was a bit bland) and varieties of seafood pasta for our main which was quite tasty but on the oily side, followed by what looked like home made fruit sorbet for dessert (this was delicious!). Prices were as expected high on this touristy street and I've definitely eaten better Italian. Overall not bad though and the service was good.
A couple things came out wrong (not a big deal) but the owner still gave us our appetizers free. Pasta was delicious...wish I'd seen the lobster on the menu because it looked amazing coming out of the kitchen
