Was Bortolo Lombardi at Etna Rosso Nice a mag?
Very good sicilian restaurant in the trendy Port area. At Rue Bonaparte. Marvellous Pasta with seafood. Dont miss it. Friendly staff and good terrace. A bit busy with cars in the street. View all feedback.
What Tom D dislikes about Etna Rosso Nice:
We were staying in Nice as we were going to Monaco Grand Prix. My son and i found this little restaurant down a side street with tables outside. There is a limited Italian menu but a very large wine list. Only two choices of beer though. Service was very quick with unlimited water and bread being brought regularly by a very friendly waiter.. I had the fried seafood plate which was cooked if a little salty. My son had... View all feedback.
We stumble on this place late in the day and were attracted by an interesting tapas and wine blackboard offering. What a surprise from an assuming little restaurants! Italian inspired tapas ( for the purists a bit odd; Spanish concept, italian inspiration served in France!) delightful vegetableI killed vegetables with a hint of honey, local cheese, herbed couscous and a delightfully small spiced cold tomato soup together with the obligatory bread, cheese and charcuterie styled cold meats. The quality of the wine that came with the tapas was surprisingly good. Enough to order another glass and turn what we thought would be a quick meal into a more relax experience. The staff are characters. From Italy originally ( not surprising as The Italian border is less that an hour away) language issues were laughed away and the only issue was getting water early. First we asked and were acknowledged then the glasses arrived then somewhat betaedly the water arrrived about 5 minutes later. However we are from Australia and simply being acknowledged can take that long at home!!!This little gem is worth a go. Situated in the Old Town about. 5 minutes walk from the Port and on a street that is fairly easy to navigate.

I had a weekend trip to Nice but I forgot to make reservations for evening dinners. It is very difficult to have nice meal out Saturday night in France if you have not previously made a reservation. I was very lucky to find this place because they had tables available. I got the perception that this is a new restaurant managed by an Italian family. I had a three course meal and everything was delicious. For starter I had parmigiana di melanzane e zucchini (it was served cold) which was very good. As main dish I had raviolis with burrata and basil sauce which was the best dish by far. Really good. Finally as a dessert I had Tiramisou that was not to sweet and it was delicious as well. The service was friendly but not professional. For example, they served mis en bouche to the couple that was seated next to me but not to me. I was never offered parmigian cheese for main main dish (although the raviolis did not need it but usually this this is customary), I was never offered more bread when my main dish arrived; when I finished my glass of wine I was not asked if I wanted another glass. Don't get me wrong, the service was friendly but sloppy and it was not congruent with the decoration of the place (it is painted in black, stylish, with mirrors). My recommendation to the owner is to professionalize the service (training) and my advise to everyone is to visit this place for the food!
Nice cosy restaurant with friendly staff. We had Saltimbocca for Starters looks like a small square pizza but more crispy. Highly recommended. We had 2 pastas Linguine Sardines and Spaghetti Vongole E Pistachio. Both were delicious. Our only gripe was we were served and charged for bottles of still water although we asked for tap water. Could have been caused by the language barrier. But other than this, it was a good dining experience.
The old port part of Nice is really pleasant and does not feel all that touristy. There are quite a few restaurants just a street or two back into the town particularly in rue Bonaparate. We were really happy with our lunch the plat du jour which was penne with sardines, and our daughter with her gnocchi. Owners were really nice as was the young waiter, and we were given a table outside even though we had not reserved. Good value and the friendly welcome and service were also great.
