What Lamington Child doesn't like about Exotik - Latin Cafe:
Making a dish vegan means charging $2 to add this bland... mush. And the food is already pretty bland. The fried rice that I ordered for its plantain doesn't have plantain. Very expensive for the little effort that goes into everything. This does not carry the torch for Latin food. View all feedback.

This is a hidden gem in the Newtown vegan eating circuit! It 's a great spot for something different from your usual breakfast fare. Our coffees came with sweet little biscuits that our server specifically told us were vegan! We both ate the vegan big breakfast: scrambled tofu, black beans and areppo. All three components were delicious and also went well together. The atmosphere here is also positive. It 's definitely vegan friendly , even if sadly not vegan only. And the only place I know of in Sydney that has good, vegan South American food that 's worth something!
Came for dinner and drinks to newtown and stumbled into this place while trying to decide. The atmosphere looks great and although I'm no expert on Latin food I was pleasantly surprised by our mixed tapas meal. Staff were friendly and service was quick. Cocktail was a little watered down but only $5 with the tapas so cannot fault on price. Experience was pleasant and could definitely see myself coming back :)
Lovely atmosphere and interiors but food and wait times for the food were disappointing. I had the acai bowl (something new on their menu?), it was literally $14 for 3 large scoops of coconut yogurt and next to zero acai on the side. Also, no granola, only a little muesli. Fruit did seem fresh and presentation was great but.. definitely not worth the money. Wait time for this was a while too. No one was in the store and it still took close to 20 minutes. The staff wasn't attentive and always appeared on her phone so I didn't get served for coffee until a long while later. On a better note, their cap is great. It's strong and foamy which I love. Free wifi is also a plus, good for study dates :) Also, have a look at the toilets while you're here... they're funky (in a good way) and clean.
Exotik is a popular restaurant in Newtown which serves an assortment of South American cuisines. My girlfriend and I ordered several of their signature dishes for takeaway, and while some were excellent, others were deplorable. My favourite must be the ceviche, a dish made from fresh fish fillet cured in citrus juices and spiced with chilli peppers. The additional condiments such as chipped onions and cilantro added flavour and intensity to the cold dish and we enjoyed ourselves a lot. HITS: Empanadas, Ceviche MISSES: Patacones, Arepas
