I was lucky enough to attend one of my best friends wedding here. The venue was just amazing....the marquee was set up beautifully, food was lovely, service exceptional....well done to your team as such fantastic hosts, you did a wonderful job....bloody spectacular x
My daughters 31st Birthday meal with family. Fantastic food and outstanding welcoming service. Serving staff couldn’t do enough for us. Food was absolutely amazing. Pork belly, curry, lamb all superb. Highly recommend. Phoned to book, phone answered quickly and professionally. Very impressed.
My family and I visited for dinner this evening, and we were lucky enough to get the last two pies of the day, which were steak and ale. I can ho estly say it was one of the best pies I've ever had, it had loads of beautiful steak in it and the pastry was beautiful. The mash was tasty but I would've liked more of it, but the gravy that game with it was delicious. We also tried 3 of their desserts biscoff cheesecake, lemon meringue pie and waffle and these were all delicious aswell. The location is lovely with a small childrens play area and seating out the front. The food was very reasonably priced and the staff were very friendly. We will certainly be back again, well done Farmers Arms, keep up the good work.
Have to say we were highly disappointed. After seeing good reviews and the place being recommended to us, I saw the homemade pie served in a dish with the puff pastry lid and mixed seasonal veg we just had to try. Well, I was served only green beans as the seasonal veg, a small portion of chips in some sort of metal pen pot what looked to be a Peter’s pie. Don’t get me wrong, I’m partial to a peters pie but not for more than £1. I asked if the pie was homemade or bought in the waitress said it was homemade. I guess the chef thinks like my husband, he says he’s cooked a lasagna after he’s warmed it in the oven. The starters were umm “ok”, similar to man of Gwent so we did expect a little more for a non-chain restaurant. The deserts we actually got refunded for so we won’t comment on those. There’s a reason it’s a set 2 course menu that’s all I will say. We always love to try new places especially pub type food as it’s usually homemade with a nice atmosphere but unfortunately it was our first and last visit. Ordering food which is slowly brought to the table (you have to ask for salt, pepper, vinegar sauces they didn’t offer these) I was surprised to find we still had to go to the bar to order drinks. I didn’t think it was safe or appropriate for all those children to be in and out the kitchen either. Perhaps something to review. After dining at places like the rock fountain, the gate etc our expectations were high as your set menu is the same price. Staff were friendly, just the standard of the food in comparison to other places of the same price was not there for us 6 food critics.
Had the 3 meat roast (beef brisket, turkey and belly pork) and it was superb. Genuinely 1 of the best Sunday lunches I've ever had. A must visit.
