Was Augustine Kerluke at Chinois a mag?
Great chinese - pity there was only 2 of us because I would have like to sample more that was on the extensive menu. Has carpet which keeps the noise down so you can talk. We booked early on a Saturday night and there seemed to be plenty of large tables of folks enjoying themselves. Quite good wine list that wasn't over expensive - not sure if they are BYO or not. Anyway recommend trying this one. I will be back when... View all feedback.
What Julius Senger dislikes about Chinois:
Went here with friends for a night out. The restaurant smelt unusual, like someone had pissed on the carpet. I got use to this smell after a while. This didn't really concern me but was a bit off putting.Food took ages to come out, over an hour. We first got some food after about 20-30mins, but then had to wait another 40mins for the rest of the dishes to come out. Besides this, the staff were OK and service was OK t... View all feedback.
I was curious to see how Chinese cuisine would fare in Newcastle, compared to other cities and Chinois is a solid performer.
Close to Civic Theatre making it a good spot for dinner before a show. Fresh food with plenty of flavour, For entrée try the Garlic Prawns, The best the four of us have ever sampled. The honey prawns, light and crispy, Garlic combination with plenty of protein. Reasonable prices and BYO.
There are not alot of Chinese restaraunts in Newcastle but being the only one in the city it doesn't disappoint. A great range of options with really good prices. It is licensed with a good range of wines and beers or you can byo wine and the food is great. Dad always gets the curried chicken and rice and declares it the best he has eaten. The wonton soup is great and the hotpot really good. Everytime I have been the food does not disappoint . If you want to eat before a show they are fast and efficient. There is plenty of room and is good for families too.Enjoy this good Chinese restaraunt.
The best Chinese food I have ever tasted. The owners are the most lovely and genuine people, and the service is beautiful. Highly recommend!
