Great chinese - pity there was only 2 of us because I would have like to sample more that was on the extensive menu. Has carpet which keeps the noise down so you can talk. We booked early on a Saturday night and there seemed to be plenty of large tables of folks enjoying themselves. Quite good wine list that wasn't over expensive - not sure if they are BYO or not. What Julius Senger doesn't like about Chinois:
Went here with friends for a night out. The restaurant smelt unusual, like someone had pissed on the carpet. I got use to this smell after a while. This didn't really concern me but was a bit off putting.Food took ages to come out, over an hour. The best Chinese food I have ever tasted. The owners are the most lovely and genuine people, and the service is beautiful. Highly recommend!
Food was always lovely... the best special fried rice, garlic king prawns mongolian lamb, another fave. (Seems they are not open for lunch anymore, so it's been a long time.

The food was fabulous and the prices are good. Service is good too but it took a while to get the food as the order was lost. They did apologise and we got our entree for free. Very popular Chinese Restaurant in Newcastle and I can understand why. We will go back for sure.
