My partner and I came here for our first date night after the most recent lockdown and the first fine dining experience in Newcastle since returning to our home... read more My partner and I came here for our first date night after the most recent lockdown and the first fine dining experience in Newcastle since returning to our home town in late 2020. Firstly, the service was some of the best we've ever had. The staff were exceedingly friendly and knowledgeable, taking the time to answer our questions and exquisitely describe each dish as it arrived. Our location in the Glass House area at the rear of the restaurant was brilliant. In what I assume used to be the back yard, we found ourselves seated in a greenhouse surrounded by night; the glass reflecting the nearby candles and low interior light to create a delicate and warm atmosphere. The food was not only immaculately presented, but also divine in taste as well. There were several combinations I was dubious about when contemplating and pleasantly surprised upon consuming. Sweet mixed with savoury on many occasions to produce unexpectedly pleasant flavours that absolutely blew me away. I cannot speak more highly of Subo, its staff, and the Chef. We will definitely be returning several times in the coming years to treat ourselves to their ever-changing seasonal menus and I suggest you do the same as well.
