What User doesn't like about Riverside Bistro:
The bistro located next to an indoor children's playground was very loud, so we moved to the back of the bowling club. Only one out of the four dishes we ordered had a distinct taste, while the other three were bland and generic Australian-Chinese dishes that could be found in any court. Even after my friend specifically asked for the Szechuan beef to be sharp and not sweet, it turned out to be both. The prices were... View all feedback.

Amazing food, great service and all for $15 per head. This one will be tough to beat.
This club bistro enjoys a great following because it gets all the basic things right. Massive mainly Aussie/Chinese menu offers something for everyone. If you leave feeling hungry then the fault would probably lie with the customer.Be reminded that this is a working class club situated on the the mighty Hunter River which meanders alongside the main drag into Newcastle. If you like the constant P.A in the background, raffles being conducted, untrained waistaff, No thrills Chinese food which is hot and tasty which you can wash down with cheap beer or wine from the bar, then this place is for you. If you like "posh Nosh" you might secretly like it here but would never admit it
This bistro has been around forever in the Hexham Bowling Club. Situated next to the mighty Hunter River which meanders to the port of Newcastle NSW. A real working class hangout which has a "no thrills" approach to their service. Fully equipped club bar at reasonable prices. The bistro has a massive Chinese menu to choose from. You line up to order and waitstaff bring it to your table. The service is prompt and the food which I would describe as Aussie/Asian comes out hot, tasty and plentiful. Main meals average about $12. No wonder the place is so popular. As with most clubs a certain tolerance to P.A announcements, raffles, poker machines is required
The best kebab shop in Newcastle. They make everything on site no frozen garbage. Great service and friendly staff.
We are new in town and decided to try out the bistro in the Hexham Bowls Club. We opted for the family banquet and were pleasantly surprised by the generous portions. Our main course was served quickly, was delicious, and was quickly devoured by the family. Without much of a wait, the table was filled with a mountain of food for the main course. My teenage son was very satisfied. We ended the meal with dessert. The food was amazing, the service was excellent, and all of this for only $15 per person. It will be difficult to find a better deal than this.
