What Peter W doesn't like about Newark Saigon Seafood Harbor:
Food is okay. It can satisfy you when you have a craving for tasty dim sum. However, the service is really horrible at this place. The first time I ordered a take-out here, I waited 45 minutes at the place after the time it is supposed to be ready. To make it worse, I was pretty much being ignored while waiting. This is the restaurant my family chooses for dim sum, and it's been a while since our last visit. I've heard the ownership has changed, but the food remains excellent and reasonably priced. What matters most is that the dishes are delicious and the service is outstanding. We arrived hungry for lunch, and the carts came out promptly. My kids got to enjoy all their favorite dishes, and I indulged in my chicken feet, which made me happy. I’m not sure why this place has low ratings. For us, it offers great food, fair prices, attentive service, and a clean environment, so we’re very satisfied—it truly checks all the boxes. The parking lot is spacious, though we sometimes have to drive around to find a spot in the back.
Somehow the staff doesn't bother answering my questions about when the food will be done. I gave it another chance yesterday for another takeout. They didn't have one dish in my order and didn't bother telling me when I picked my food up. After I discovered one dish was missing and called them back, they did not want to refund me and asked me to bring my receipt back next time for a make-up dish. Not an acceptable answer. Not an acceptable service. I felt scammed.
Very disappointing service attitude when we asked the manager about the sales tax calculations before the discount, service charge calculated before discounted account and after sales tax. Food is mediocre, will not return nor recommend to anyone.
Ordered pickup via GrubHub (warning: system gives confirmation but does not notify you when order is ready). Food was ready to-go but cooled down a little as a result. Whole Peking duck (4/5): duck seemed small for price, duck neck and wing tip were missing, came with guabao, onion sliver, and plum sauce. Skin not most crispy but likely because it was sitting jn the to-go container. Hit the craving, but Saigon is known for dimsum not necessarily Peking duck. Shrimp dumpling (5/5): nice and juicy, use the big shrimp. Pork shrimp shuimai (5/5): delicious, filling, did not get greasy after taste. Chicken feet (5/5): taste like how it should, not spicy. Appreciated that Saigon serves dimsum for dinner!
The dim sum selection is delightful, with numerous carts offering a variety of steaming hot dishes. You can also place orders from a printed menu. We enjoyed a feast that included shrimp dumplings, pork dumplings, beef rice noodle rolls, shrimp rice noodle rolls, chicken feet, lop cheung buns, steamed pork buns, soya noodles, steamed spare ribs, bean curd rolls, fried sesame balls, and egg custard tarts. Everything arrived hot and fresh, but I particularly loved the crispy fried sesame balls and the egg custard tarts. If you're planning to visit on a weekend, make sure to arrive early as it tends to get busy by noon! The service was satisfactory, although it did get a bit hectic as the restaurant filled up.
