We've been visiting this restaurant for years, and it's consistently a great option when we're in the area. We ordered the chili chicken, which was quite tasty, and the gobi manchurian, which we enjoyed thoroughly. You really can't go wrong with their biryani, although I wish they offered shorba as well. We tried the bullet naan for the first time, and it was a nice change from the usual garlic naan (which, by the way, is delicious). We also had the Chettinad chicken curry for the first time, and it was really good. While the ambiance and service could definitely use some improvement, the food more than makes up for it. Overall, I highly recommend Biryani City!
The ambiance wasn’t fancy, which I personally appreciated because, after all, you can’t eat the decor. As a long-time fan of Indian food since 1966, particularly in the NYC area including Jackson Heights and various spots in New Jersey, I often find myself disappointed when trying Indian cuisine outside of my familiar haunts. However, I decided to try their special goat curry, something I had never tasted before, and it was absolutely outstanding! The chef/owner was energetic and welcoming, sharing that their Biryani is their signature dish. I’m definitely planning to return and try it if I find myself back in Newark, DE. Interestingly, when I visited a copy center elsewhere in Delaware, I asked the Indian owner for recommendations on Indian restaurants. He mentioned that there wasn’t much good in the area but told me that if I ever went to Newark, DE, Biryani City was the place to go, urging me to order the Biryani. It seems I made the right choice!
I placed a phone order for pick-up, and overall, dinner was quite good. However, I requested medium spice, and it turned out to be extremely spicy. I checked with my parents, who also ordered medium, and they found it to be very spicy as well. Despite this, the flavors were excellent. The shrimp were on the smaller side, but there were plenty of them. Next time, I think I'll go with mild spice and hope it’s still full of flavor. Both the garlic and regular naan were delicious!
We just moved to Delaware and tried this restaurant (take out) multiple times in the last few days. I can vouch for their Biriyani, which in my opinion is the best biriyani in the US that I’ve tried. Also, the Fish Apollo is to die for! Definitely worth a try!! The prices are very reasonable too.
We normally order Vegetable biryani from here, it is good in taste compared to other biryanis being served in Delaware i like thier gravy and raitha which they give along with biryani) , there is currently no dine in due to covid, they are pretty fast to deliver after we order. Tried their started veg manchurian it was also good. Onky thing that has bothered me since the last visit is that, they said vegetable biryani was 23 with cash with card it is 25 , shouldn’t it be the same.
