The dim lighting, candles, and low seating at Hangawi create a comforting and quaint atmosphere. Guests remove their shoes at entry and are seated at open but intimate tables. This was my first experience with authentic Korean cuisine and Hangawi has lived up to its reputation. The food was rich with flavors seemingly familiar but unique enough to be new to me. I highly recommend the spicy cauliflower bites, I promis... View all feedback.
What Celestine Balistreri doesn't like about Hangawi:
Had the lunch prix fixe and it was fine, but didn't live up to the hype for us. The dishes seemed pretty standard and were on the light side of flavor, although the service and ambiance were excellent. Maybe we ordered the wrong things? Variations of the stone bowl fried rice, vermicelli, mushroom skillet, pancake combo platter but not sure we'd order any of them again, if we wound up back at this restaurant. Perhaps... Eating is good (we have taken the $75 fix price menu), but definitiw overpriced for what they get. beautiful idea that shoes to remove but get on the toilet, also provided with the house shoes, is a threatening experience. restaurant walls need an urgent painting: too dirty. a negative experience.
We chose this restaurant for a pre-theater menu because 2 of our party of 4 were vegetarian. we tried a tonne of different appetizers and main dishes and not one disappointed. even our meat lovers have left full and very satisfied with the creativity of the dishes. we had the spicy noodles, combination pfannkuchen, kimbap, fritte, kimchi sb rice, ssam bab and the tofu with broccoli. all were excellent, but the vegetarians in our group could not stop riding over the tofu with broccoli, say it was the best prepared tofu they had ever eaten.
Excellent restaurant, with a beautiful quiet atmosphere and wonderful eating. the prix fixe menu for 4 of us was wonderful, each curs a joy with very attentive service and a beautiful atmosphere. highly recommended!
Everything was just great! had the prix fixe menu and loved all dishes. Usually, if you think about Korean food, you think meat and heat. this place captures the Buddhist kitchen coreas, and they knock it out of the park in an atmosphere. imagine my surprise in a cold and rainy night to place my feet in the sunken foot well and experience the heated floor! I'd like to have hotter kimchi and don't know if it's available. will find out the next visit.
The most luxurious place I’ve ever been to enjoy both vegan and Korean food…and it was really memorable! I’m amazed by the possibility of vegan cuisine…the seasoning is very detailed! The dessert is also finger-licking good. Devine dinning experience!
