The A2B was excellent! The service is incredibly quick, but be aware that it fills up fast on weekends, as it's a small place. We tried the masala chai, mango lassi, and filter coffee, all of which were authentic. For food, we ordered the Mysore masala dosa and samosa chaat. The portions are generous! The sambar was outstanding, and the overall serving sizes were impressive. It's definitely a fantastic restaurant! View all feedback.
What HK doesn't like about Adyar Ananda Bhavan:
You'd expect A2B at NYC to have some class, but no! I do not understand why they would hire college kids to work here, who have basically no understanding of how to talk to the customer. The kid who worked here was rude and unprofessional and was rushing me from ordering the food to paying the bill. Extremely unprofessional. View all feedback.
This restaurant has been our go-to spot for South Indian cuisine in NYC for many years. After a break of several years due to the pandemic, we finally returned to A2B for indoor dining, and we had a wonderful experience. The idli vada combo, the ramen, and the butter masala dosa were all outstanding, just like we remembered. The Rava Masala dosa was a bit chewy and not as crisp as I recalled, but overall, we were very satisfied with our meal. The Gulab Jamun was a delightful way to end the dining experience. If you're in the mood for South Indian food in NYC, this place is definitely worth a visit!
This was my second visit to Adyar Ananda Bhavan, and I had a fantastic meal. For appetizers, we shared the idli and vada combo, which was absolutely delicious. For the main course, we ordered the ghee masala dosa and the rava onion chili dosa, and both were outstanding. We also requested some dosa podi (a spicy gunpowder masala mixed with ghee) on the side, which was a great addition. This place is far superior to Saravana Bhavan. Overall, we really enjoyed our meal!
I cannot recommend this place. I visited during my office lunch break at noon, when it was supposed to open, but they didn't actually open until 12:12 PM. We had to wait outside in the blazing sun. After asking them twice, they finally let us in. If you've been to India, you know it's not exactly known for its customer service, and this experience is a prime example of that mindset being carried over. The food was good, though.
The best dosa in New York City! The food is delicious, fresh, and served in generous portions.
This restaurant has become my favorite spot. The generous portions let me divide one order into three meals. I'm particularly fond of the kala chana and vegetable uthappam. I highly recommend it!
