It took us quite some time to take the street car up to the 6000 block of St Charles, then hike over to Magazine, but it was worth the trip (we were able to take the city bus back down Magazine, toward the French Quarter). We were jonesin' for some fake meat and vegan dessert, which are too scarce in this lovely town. I would rather give my money to a local restaurant, so let's let them know we demand to have more op... View all feedback.
What User doesn't like about Whole Foods Market:
This location has a solid selection of products, bulk items, and a variety of vegan specialties. However, the frozen section feels somewhat disorganized. I wish the hot bar offered more plant-based options. The mid-city location frequently features vegan Cuban dishes such as black beans and rice, but this spot seems to focus more on meat-based offerings and Louisiana-inspired dishes like mac 'n' cheese. This is largely like any other Whole Foods you have been to. You will find all the usual suspects when it comes to natural food store snacks and beverages, plus a couple vegan deli and bakery items.
Multitude of vegan pastries fresh and packaged. Also vegan sandwich option (freshly made) and sushi rolls. Everything is fresh and healthy!
Large Whole Foods, large produce section but not many prepared vegan meals (only two)
This location has a decent produce section, bulk foods, and carries a lot of vegan specialty products. Frozen products are a bit scattered. I do wish the hot bar served more plant-based options — the Mid-City location often has vegan Cuban fare such as plaintains, black beans, and rice, but this location tends to have mostly meat-based dishes and Louisiana staples like mac ‘n cheese. The sushi section usually has a few vegan rolls, and occasionally options beyond the typical cucumber and avocado roll. There is also often a coconut-based vegan chocolate mousse hidden among the refrigerated pastries.
Whole foods has sometimes aved me travelling from eating really bad foods. But for the price per pound they charge, the global quality vegatebales beans and grains non labelled which means they are industrial bulk products, and bad cheap oils, in brown rice for example, the food never lasted more then 24hours in the fridge, so was already nearly rancid when i bought it. Very green wahing brand in usa, not even giving serious garanties about gmo. A chain can't be good is my deduction for mac donalds as for whole foods. Try to find a locally engaged, maybe smaller farmers community suppporting cooperative shop. (consumer or workers owned) [hidden link] some few good organic brands like eden, and some nice friendly people working there, and sometimes better then nothing, for emergencies only, like every supermarket.
