The staff is top notch. The food was very good. I doubt I’d order tuna poke again though. My brother and sister-in-law showed up unexpectedly and the hostess quickly made room for them which was very nice. View all feedback.
What chucka doesn't like about 1609:
The food was delicious, but the service was initially slow and disorganized. There was some tension between the waitstaff. The restaurant may be picturesque during the day, but our dining experience was in the evening. View all feedback.
Steevan was amazing...excellent personality and service...my friends and I had a great time... That was my beautiful plate...when I said i was too full to indulge... Thank you Steevan...we will be back soon!!
We greatly enjoyed 1609 at Colonial Downs for atmosphere and food during the horse races in late July and again in late August 2021. We reserved the same table for both of our excursions. Hannah was extremely polite, personable and attentive both times. The colossal meatball which she recommended was delicious: a good combination of meats and perfect sauce.. With that and the bbq chicken sliders (also yummy), we were too full for dessert. The sliders had a wonderful sauce, caramelized onions and tangy slaw. It was simply perfect to have the reserved table. There is a fee for the table which we reserved online in advance. We didn't mind the fee as it gave us excellent access to the shaded balconies to watch the races during the heat of the day..and a base to come back to as we choose to watch some of the races down at the track/rails. Hannah welcomed us back when we returned from being at the track and checked in with us to see if we needed more water, drinks, etc. Overall a fantastic way to spend the day at the horse races AND enjoy excellent food!
Showed online that they're open. Must have id to enter building. Call first. Not open for food.

Patricia and I just had dinner at 1609 Restaurant at Colonial Downs. It is a gem of a restaurant that New Kent County has needed for a very long time. I had the fried oysters as an appetizer followed by crab cakes with green beans and creamed roasted corn. The oysters were crispy on the outside and tender and juicy inside with just a hint of heat. The crab cakes were lump crab meat with almost no fillers; just enough to hold them together. Patricia had the apple cider brined chicken and she said it was the best chicken she has ever eaten. I had a taste and it was tender, flavorful and juicy. We shared the buttermilk pie with blueberry compote; excellent choice. Service was excellent; friendly and attentive but not intrusive. What a perfect dinner!
