This is the most "authentic" wine bar in New Haven. It’s beautifully furnished and decorated in a whimsical Euro-Anglo style, and the menu is extensive, emphasizing quality and attention to detail. My friend and I initially just planned to enjoy a glass of wine and a small snack, but we were so impressed that we ended up ordering four different dishes over the course of two hours. My mom and I stumbled into August almost by mistake and I am SO GLAD we did. It is the most charming wine bar I’ve had the pleasure to go to. The selection is always delicious and Michelle is always there to welcome you, and help you choose and describe the wines. The service is incredible- everyone working there wants to be there and wants you to enjoy whatever you are drinking and/or eating. They serve light food like charcuterie cheese boards, shishito peppers and pâté, but everything is so delicious. I go here every time a friend comes to town because there is no better place to take them in New Haven for a cozy night out for wine and cheese.
It is the most “authentic” weinbar in new haven. carefully decorated and decorated in Euro-Anglo-Somsical fashion, with a menu that is on quality and focus. my friend and I went for a glass and a snack, and finished 4 different dishes over 2 hours.
Incredible service, great cocktails and eating. a place in east rock must not be missing. I can't recommend august anymore. update: still great. still loves it.
The quintessential tiny bar, august is a new haven best kept secret. with a maximum capacity of probably not more than 20 people, they arrive early to ensure a seat and make sure they order from their charcuterie menu, it makes fun to watch as it mounted directly on the bar.
I've been going to August since they first opened almost 5 years ago (when I still lived in New Haven and it was a short walk). I've never been to a bar on the planet where I've felt more comfortable. This is the best bar in the state for people who love wine, and one of the best bars in the state, period. Doesn't matter if you prefer the more popular wines or the more obscure stuff, the wine list is thoughtfully selected, there is something for everyone, and they are always happy to make recommendations. The food is not an afterthought here. The menu is small but executed brilliantly. They serve the type of beautiful, composed, and flavorful dishes that many places just can't pull off. Perfect for couples, singles, dates, or whatever. Just one of my absolute favorite places ever.
