I had a pork knuckle in mind when... read more This restaurant was recommended by our hotel (Explorer Neuschwanstein, see separate review) for some authentic bavarian food. I had a pork knuckle in mind when we went there but unfortunately, they only serve that on certain days of the week and did not have it...when we were there. However, the pork roast I chose instead was very nice, too. My wife had a very fresh trout. The restaurant brews its own beer which went nicely with our food. Reasonably priced. Recommended we would come back if our ways lead us to Nesselwang again.

I know Nesselwang quite well... read more My daughter and I visit this area of the Allgau every year (8 years now) for skiing and on every trip we try out a new restaurant. I know Nesselwang quite well and I looked on Trip Adviser picking Baren as it had such...good reviews. The premesis itself are marvellous, very tidy and warm and full of local bits 'n ' pieces also the restaurant was full (6.45 p.m. Friday night) a good sign. We found room for 2 and viewed the menu over a Dunkel Weissbier coke. The choice was quite large, I ordered the steak 'madagaskar ', daughter had a Lasagne. It was now that we realised there was only one waiter serving about 40 50 dinners, he was rushed off his feet and sweating profusely! I would suggest that staff had let them down as nowhone could work on his own at this rate for too long! Eventually, the meals arrived both were ok but nothing special, I had to tear at the steak as no steak knife was produced (I noticed others 'tearing ' at their food). The real issue was that the waiter had very little time for the guests and serve in a proper fashion he was 'fire fighting ' all evening. I can only review what I experienced and I 'm sure that the majority of reviews are accurate, however on this evening it did not go too well, though I would probabably try Baren again on another occasion.
