Claustrophobic. I dovetailed into Plaza de Espana and thought, 'maybe Oliva ' which is another great restaurant. But at the apex of the Plaza was Salamandra. I 'd seen it before. It looks nice, fake marble columns, outside dining, etc. Okay, so the service was shorthanded, one waiter, seriously overburdened. That can 't excuse the slap hazard presentation. Tables not laid, orders forgotten, etc. But he was a pleasant guy so I 'm in a forgiving mood. They brought all my courses together, which is famously medieval. The plates were enormous. Four oxtails for goodness sake. Two is plenty. See attached pix. Good points. Great setting. Lovely amuse boche. Wine superb. Huge brandy. Atmosphere chilled and away from that tourist drag I was impressed Spanish people ate here. The [one] lavatory had baby change facilities. This was almost a 2 star, but the baby change, wine, brandy and location stole it. Just.
Had lunch here and was excellent. Presentation is great and plates well rounded with tons of flavor. Excellent food, staff was super friendly and welcoming and establishment was very clean. Had a really good meal, I recomend eating here, the oxtail is a fantastic dish for dinner and very well made.
A lovely family meal had by all 6 of us at this lovely restaurant. 4 having Galician steak and 2 having the Seabass, everyone's cooked to perfection. The puff pastry with apple desert was beautiful . The lovely waitress Paqui never stopped yet had everything so well in her control. All in all, a lovely experience and a very friendly restaurant that we would definitely recommend.
Amazing meals, much is made in their oven. Great fresh seafood, beautiful vegetables. Everything tasted healthy and delicious. Homemade flan was excellent. Knowledgeable about gluten sensitivities. Service was wonderful and friendly. We returned for a second meal, it was that good.
We last visited the Salamandra three years ago in 2019, BC, before COVID. We had heard it had changed hands, so we were a little apprehensive. The menu was a little more expensive than we are used to, as it is all home made. We chose a couple of the cheaper options. Two complementary appetizers arrived first, which boded well. When the food we ordered arrived, we were pleasantly surprised by the quality and quantity. We had one fish and one chicken dish each, which arrived on large oval plates. We then shared a large dessert selection, as we were rather full by then. The owner then brought us two digestives on the house, she was very friendly and helpful. We would definitely recommend this restaurant.
