Big place, very central in Vomero but kind of hidden from the main street. We accessed from a small street and had a lunch break here. We were not planning on eating but were positively pleased with the variety of snacks they bring with drinks, which also include pizza fritta. I recommend it for quick breaks.
On the 25th of October me, my girlfriend and 3 friends visited the Azar Cafe. Off the main street in a nice calm tiny street with charming lights it looked like a great place to have a drink. The prices are high. Expect to pay 5€ for a domestic beer and 2€ for a coffee. Double what I 'm used to in Italy. Fair enough though, we are in a nice place. The service took long, we asked for menus three times before being handed them. After ordering our drinks arrived 15 min later. Not fast, not super slow either. So far, a pretty average experience, be it a bit pricey. They offered free wifi, that no one could connect to. After pouring our beers in the provided glasses and talking for a couple of minutes, a loud *bang* and glass and beer everywhere. My girlfriends beer had just exploded on the table. Apparently the glasses used have a high surface tension and after prolonged dishwasher use micro cracks develop that made the glass explode on being cooled by the beer. My girlfriend is at this point covered in beer, her phone is soaked, and her hand is cut from the glass. Luckily no one at the table has glass pieces in their eyes although being covered in tiny flakes. I stand up and yell for a waitress who is literally 3 meters away taking an order at another table. She comes over, no towels, no shocked reactions, no apologies, nothing. I would go so far as to say she wouldn 't even have bothered with coming over if I hadn 't called her. We tell her the glass exploded, she outright says glasses don 't explode you must have dropped it. Here we are, a glass exploded, no one seems to be bothered by it and now I 'm convincing a waitress of what just happened? Luckily we where 5 at the table but Azar Cafe become much less appealing. We convince the waitress of what happened and she walks off. I thought to fix up our table, get my girlfriend a new drink and to apologise through some customer friendly way. Nope, she went to take an order at a different table! Still no towels, our table still covered in beer and glass. At this point Ive had enough and barge into the main cafe, a somewhat older looking man was there, the owner I figured, luckily I figured correctly. I explained to him what happened, the exploding glass and the uncaring waitress and upon pressing he apologised, ordered a new drink to be brought and upon seeing my girlfriends cut went to 5 napkin dispensers before he found one with a napkin in. The rest of the dispensers was empty. Medical care wise, that was it, a napkin. Luckily the cut wasn 't deep but some alcohol to clean it would have been great. He advised us to get a different table. My girlfriend is at this still wearing trousers soaked in beer, in summer that wouldn 't be an issue but even Italy isn 't that warm anymore in October. We sit down at a different table, 5 minutes later a waiter arrives with a new beer and an explanation that sometimes due to the dishwashers the glasses can break on their own . This explanation truly amazed me, I asked if this happened before and he confirmed it did. Strange that I had to convince a waitress of the fact then, but fair enough. My girlfriend finished her drink and 20 minutes later we left. The table we where at originally still covered in glass and beer. If you serve your customers drinks in glasses that you know can explode on their own I don 't think you have any business in running a cafe. The cafe looks nice on the outside, but that is about it. Avoid.
