When we arrived, we were served hot tea and an appetizer of spicy cabbage. We ordered sesame tofu and I tried to order the spicy grandma fried rice, but it was not vegan. They were able to make something similar for me. I personally enjoyed the tofu more, while my partner preferred the rice. We would definitely return to try more dishes! View all feedback.

Tried Mapo for the first time and instantly fell in love with it. The food was delicious, the atmosphere inviting, and the staff very friendly. Tried Mapo Restaurant first time and fell in love with it. The food is delicious, ambient surroundings and friendly staff. Ordered Dry Chilli Chicken, Chicken and Corn Soup, Kimchi, Spicy Green Beans, Veg Tofu Curry. Everything was delicious and goodportion size. Taking out one star since the veg. Tofu curry had tinge of strong numbing oil that we didn’t like. Normallythat’s part of their dishes but it was our first time and we weren’t used to eating. Probably we will ask specifically notto add in the dishes.
Mapo has really gone down hill over the years that I’ve gone there. But tonight was a new low. My takeout Sesame Chicken was horrible, as if it was originally cooked 4 hours ago and had been refried two or three times to keep it “fresh”. Even thebreading was “tough”. How could a restaurant serve this to a customer?
When I’m visiting Naperville I must eat here, in fact, on my last visit I ate here two of the three nights I was in town. Unfortunately, I’m never in town long enough to try much else beyond the dry chili chicken. It is so good. I fear my memoryof it builds it up beyond reality but each visit never fails to disappoint. The crispy bits of fried chicken tossed in spicychili oil haunts my dreams. I can’t wait for the opportunity to visit again. Maybe I’ll order two dishes so I can have thedry chili chicken and explore other items on their menu.
The special lunch menu is a bargain with SO SO SO MANY options of beef-pork-chicken-fish-veggy cooking in various styles from only around $10!!! The our first time order was an a la carte menu with a whole fish. It came out so perfectly spicy withvariety of vegetables. The waitress was very nice and thoughtful. The restaurant is cosy with wooden tables and chairs. MapoRestaurant is definitely our new favorite authentic Chinese restaurant in this neighborhood! Highly recommended!

Mapo is fantastic and has been a staple for many years. I always go there for their delicious vegan chick'n. Sometimes you have to preorder it, but it's definitely worth it. I hope they offer more vegan options in the future!
On arrival we got hot tea and an app of spicy cabbage... stuff. We ordered Sesam Tofu and I tried to order the grandmother fried rice (because it was spicy), but it was not vegan so that they could do something similar. I enjoyed the tofu more and my partner prefers rice! Would definitely go back and try more dishes!
Mapo has been wonderful for many years. It's my place for her vegan tussi. You have to preorder it sometimes. It's sooooo good! Please add more vegan options!

As a Chinese, Mapo's food is definetly authentic enough in Naperville.
Today was the second time dining in here. Food is excellent. Staff is polite and helpful. I am also impressed at how clean the restaurant is! I ordered the Kung Pao Chicken. It comes with rice, is delicious and can be split between multiple people because the dish sizes are large. Will be returning because the food is very flavorful and delicious!
The food was very high quality and very delicious. Fresh vegetables and not your hole in the wall type of Chinese food. Very, very good and we will be back again.
Mapo is the best Chinese around. You pay a bit of a premium but it's worth it.
We used to dine here once or twice years ago but too spicy for us… Recently, back, went out of good Chinese option in the area…oh boy…either they changed ownership or new chef!!! Now there’ non-spicy option LOL or just a little spicy which is good for us Their price is a bit on the higher side but at least their food is more delicious than MH lol The food is authentic, staffs are kind and the restaurant itself is clean We dine there so often now, they stop giving us a small tables for two adult and two kids…they start to give us six ppl table because I order so much LOL

Wow. I really did not know that there is such a wonderful Chinese restaurant in Naperville. I passed by the toad sign so many times but have never thought of visiting there before my Chinese friend recommended the place. He said “Mapo might be the best and most authentic Chinese restaurant in west suburbs “. I can say it is absolutely true. The foods were amazing so I ate almost 3 people portions at last dinner. Staffs were so kind and the restaurant was so clean. I want to strongly recommend the owner to replace the sign. If they have a good sign matching with the foods and services that the restaurant is providing, the restaurant will become #1 Chinese restaurant in IL near soon.
My favorite Chinese restaurant in this area. Traditional taste of Sichuang cooking. If you like spicy and Fowler pepper, this could be a good spot. My recommendations: Jung Pao Chicken Sole fish in Chili Bean Sauce or Black Bean Mapo Tofu Boiled Fish or beef in Spicy Sichuan Sauce Service 4.5 Environmental 4.5 Food 5 Waiting time 4 depends on date and time

Fresh food definitely. I ordered the General Tso Chicken… usually one of my go-tos. It wasn’t as spicy as I expected it to be but I do like very spicy food. The flavor wasn’t all I’d hoped for based off of the reviews. Not bad but not the best either. The sauce was the issue as it seemed to have a bit of manufactured taste. The service was fantastic. They kept my drink full and asked all the right questions at the right times. Cleanliness was also there. Crisp table cloths, clean floor and felt like a higher end restaurant than its competitors. Value was comparable to similar restaurants. I’d recommend it to anyone nearby looking for a nice Chinese meal.

Spicy Beef noodle soup and the Korean noodles my colleague had were excellent. The exact taste the original owners prepared in the 2000's. I was so happy to have such delicious meal.

I sent the sign so often, but I never thought of visiting there before my Chinese friend recommended the place. he said: “Mapo could be the best and most authentic Chinese restaurant in western suburbs.” I can say it is absolutely true. the foods were amazing, so I eat almost 3 person portions at the last dinner. the staff were so friendly and the restaurant was so clean. I would strongly recommend the owner to replace the sign. if they have a good sign that is tuned with the food and services that the restaurant offers, the restaurant
When I visited naperville, I have to eat here, in which I did, at my last visit I visited two of the three nights I was in the city. Unfortunately, I'm never long enough in town to try much more about the dry chili huh. it's so good. I fear that my memory will build it beyond reality, but everyone can never disappoint. the crispy pieces fried chickens, which are sat in sharp chili oil, conquer my dreams. I can't wait for the opportunity to visit again. I will order two dishes so I can have the dry chili huh and explore other items on their menu.
