However, I had a disappointing interaction at the counter. I ordered in English, hoping to know about the price, but got only a mm-hmm in response. She continued in German (Ich bringe… , and when I didn’t understand, she suddenly switched to fluent English that she will bring it to me. At payment, she stayed in German. I tried to respond in German to TIP her, but when I mispronounced a number, I got a doubtful look I couldn’t ignore. I’m learning German, and I believe everyone starts somewhere. but this interaction made me feel a bit unwelcome. There are lots of great cafés in the area, so I might try a different one next time. Price per person: €1–10
