It was busy, but we were able to secure a table on the outdoor deck surrounded by trees. Despite the cool weather in August, we simply put on our coats. We ordered 2 coffees, 1 banana smoothie, and mint tea, along with 2 German hotdogs, French toast, and a toastie. There were plenty of books and toys for children, as well as magazines for adults. The atmosphere was wonderful, and it was nice to be able to dine out and move around. The food was delicious, and the coffee and smoothie were particularly enjoyable. The staff were friendly, efficient, and patient despite being busy. The seating was well spaced out for Covid regulations, and the decor was relaxing both inside and outside. The prices were reasonable, and the service was good for a bustling Saturday morning. I would recommend this restaurant for a romantic lunch, family breakfast, or lunch. It is approximately a 40-minute drive from Brisbane in the mountains, offering a lovely area with plenty of walks to help burn off your meal or build up an appetite.

After waiting 50 minutes for a cold salad and a burger, we decided to order a sausage roll as well. However, we were informed that it would take 45 minutes to prepare and that it could not be heated in the microwave. It was frustrating that we were not informed of the long wait time when we placed our initial order. The kitchen seemed to be struggling to keep up with demand, as only one table had received their food at one point. There was no excuse for such long delays, especially for dishes that should only take about 10 minutes to prepare. Overall, we would have been better off driving back to Brisbane for lunch.

Coffee was under extracted lacked flavour. Scone cream from the gas whipper (very 1980s). Use traditional dollop cream please. The cream symbolic of the convenience over quality attitude in this establishment. Needed a toilet but NO! We were directed 500 metres down a dangerous road to use public toilets!! What?? Cleaning a toilet for your customers is too hard? I am constantly shocked at how hospitality operators like this business have so much distain for their customers that they would send them down the road for the toilet. I would have thought after Covid the operators would be falling over themselves to serve customers.. but no.. we are the walking wallets, the punters if you don’t come back who cares because the next lot of tourists are waiting for a table.

The cafe... read more The fabulous Elm Haus is still serving its famous coffees, brownies and those huge Scones, as a takeaway window awaiting restrictions to relax further. The cafe has loads of character and is a heaven to relax at once seating becomes allowed again, so support this wonderful business !
