What Mari Neason doesn't like about Kanpai Japanese:
4 ramen noodles for $122 that was the worst noodles n the worst dinner i ever had in Charleston. I just don't see how the owner have the nerve to charge that much for uncooked noodles with an eggs two pieces of meat and horrible broth for that price.
This is a cozy little restaurant. I love Korean food, so I was very pleasantly surprised to find Korean food on the menu and not just Japanese food (which I also love). However, one must order and pay online by using a QR code on one 's phone, and then select items without being able to ask the server about them. The Bulgogi was very delicious, as was the tempura shrimp (perfectly cooked and large pieces), and one side order of kimchee (not really enough) which does NOT come with the meal! And, they no longer serve the Korean side dishes which make Korean dining so nice. And, many menu items listed are not available so why list them at all? It was very loud as well. Still, I cannot wait to return to try their other Korean dishes! I highly recommend Kanpai.
Amazing! Coming from living in Korea before living in Charleston the Husband and Wife team are amazing at what they do. If you aren’t used to asking for what you need, you may find it difficult, because this is typical in Korean restaurants. The Korean food feels authentic and the sushi is high quality. Also the best crispy spicy tuna in town.
My partner and I were in town for a couple weeks for her work, and this was easily our favorite restaurant that we found during the stay. (It was so nice that we went twice! Overall, some of the best sushi I’ve had in awhile—and we were able to get uni on one night!—but the appetizers were great as well. Be advised it’s BYOB. We’ll definitely be back any time we’re in Charleston!
First, its important that if you want to dine in that you make a reservation! I saw reviews on this and am so glad that I did because there were people who came in that didn 't have reservation so they left after being told it would take x amount of time to be serviced. You will have to order off the QR code from your table. You will also pay this way as well. This was different but it was nice to not have to be rushed when trying to decide what to order. Unfortunately the downside is that there isn 't any photos of the items so while there were some dishes that sounded interesting, I didn 't order since I wasn 't really sure what it entailed. Server only comes and gives you water or brings your food. Not much communication otherwise. I ordered the 12 piece nigiri and my husband ordered 2 sushi roll (lemon salmon roll and some tuna roll) yumm!! They were worth the wait. They were flavorable and the fish tasted fresh! Yes, I would definitely come back.
