Was Lori D'Amore at Asako a mag?
A great local Japanese! The takeaway service was great and food was super tasty and fresh! My favourite was the pork gyozas, edamame and chicken teriyaki (which comes with salad rice and veggies with the dish Thanks for a great meal View all feedback.

What Lori D'Amore dislikes about Asako:
The food at this restaurant is fantastic and very fresh. However, despite it not being very busy (only 3 other tables were occupied in the late afternoon), I had to wait 45 minutes to be served. Another family arrived at the same time as mine and had already left by the time we finished eating. The food is nutritious, but the service could definitely be improved. View all feedback.

We ordered Prawn Tempura for an entre and a sizzling seafood for the main. Having waited for over 30 minutes between the entre and the main, to our disgust a dish which can hardly be called sizzling seafood arrived at our table. The 'sizzling seafood' contained two rubbery pieces of calamari (inedible), 2 prawns and 2 mussels - all straight from Frozen Packets!! So much for fresh seafood. The sizzling seafood dish was full of onions, some zucchini and carrots!!!! For this crappy food and service we paid $47!!!

Great tempura...best ive had. I eat japanese every opportunity. Run by a team of skillful women it is really fun happy environment to eat in. Food is excellent.love the gyoza, seafood tempura, teriaki, sashimi...udon noodles. great to sit outside on a balmy evening. It is the benchmark....not as good as mortlake is the usual statement when we make.Worth a drive to mortlake.

I have been a loyal customer of Asako in Mortlake for a long time. However, a few months ago, the restaurant changed ownership. While the branding, menu, and prices remained the same, I am sad to say that the quality of the food and the passion in its preparation have declined. If you had asked me six months ago, I would have called it the best Japanese food I have ever had, with exceptional quality at a reasonable price. Unfortunately, after two recent visits under the new ownership, the sashimi is not as fresh, the ingredients seem lower in quality overall, and the owner appears to be unfamiliar with the menu. I had to show them what I wanted to order, and tonight's meal was disappointing.
