Reviews - Square Roots
Reviews summary
Square Roots has garnered mixed reviews, highlighting both its inviting atmosphere and challenging experiences. While some visitors appreciate the friendly staff and delicious menu options, such as the praised fish and chips and festive panini, others have expressed disappointment over menu changes and lacking flavors in certain dishes. Ambiance concerns also arose, with some guests frustrated by noise levels. However, many patrons are drawn back by the café's commitment to quality ingredients and direct sourcing. Overall, it remains a promising dining spot in Keith, but consistent quality and clarity on menu offerings would enhance the experience further.

The staff at this restaurant were welcoming, courteous, and attentive. Upon the waitress's suggestion, I decided to order the full breakfast, and it turned out to be an excellent decision. It was one of the best breakfasts I have ever had, cooked perfectly to my liking, especially the crispy bacon I requested. The breakfast was presented beautifully on a large rectangular plate, and it was so delicious that I almost ended up licking the plate clean. Additionally, the restaurant is conveniently located just 30 yards away from an electric vehicle charging point, allowing me to recharge my car while enjoying my meal. I will certainly be returning to this restaurant when I am in the area again.
Nice fresh food , service was slow but it was very busy. Staff nice and friendly. It was really noisy but I guess that's because the cafe was full.
This restaurant is a great spot to enjoy excellent coffee, delicious desserts, and a satisfying lunch menu. It's the perfect place to grab a meal while exploring nearby distilleries. The service is also top-notch.
Amazing Food and amazing Staff, even made something not on the menu as I wanted a Tuna Melt. Great festive and yearly drinks hot and cold.
This cafe, located right on the square, is known for serving delicious coffee and cullen skink along with a chicken mayo sandwich deal. Both dishes were amazing, especially the skink which was smoky and creamy. The lunch was excellent, the waitress was friendly, and the prices were very reasonable. I will definitely be stopping by again when traveling north.

We stopped by around noon on a Saturday and the restaurant wasn't very busy. We were seated in a small room with a few tables, which made it seem a bit noisy despite only having seven other diners. After some time looking at the menu, my wife ordered the pulled beef bun from the specials board (see photo 1) and I chose the chicken goujons (see photo 2). The food took a little while to come out, probably because it was cooked fresh, but both dishes were good, especially the goujons. Along with tea for one and an IRN BRU, our bill totaled just under £24. By the time we left around 12:50pm, the restaurant was full with people waiting for a table, which is always a good sign that the restaurant is good.
After reading all the reviews, I was excited to stop in for lunch at this restaurant. However, I left feeling disappointed and hungry. Before I discuss the food, I must mention that the young man who served us was very friendly and welcoming. The fries were frozen and greasy. The venison burger tasted like a cheap, thin steak patty that was dry and had a strange flavor. It was also overpriced for the quality. Additionally, the restaurant was very cold because the front door was left open.
Was driving through Keith today on our way to Forres and decided to stop here for breakfast after a friend recommended Square Roots. Was greeted by a lovely young woman who walked us though to the service area and let us choose our own table. My wife and I both got chatting to her and were asking questions about the place that she was eager to answer. Ordered food, we both had Square Root Scottish breakfasts and was delighted when told there was a deal of buy one get one half price ! Lovely atmosphere, great food, friendly staff and (myself and my wife were happy customers. :
Food simple but very good. Somewhat limited menu but service prompt. Would recommend particularly for snacks.
Popped in with my wife for lunch today, had seen the renovation work done and been meaning to head over, glad we did. Lovely service, really nice coffee and home cooked food (chicken fillets and quiche if you're wondering), super speedy delivery even though it was quite busy and very reasonable prices. AND WE GOT A 50% OFF OUR NEXT VISIT VOUCHER. Winner! We'll be back, many thanks to all, cracking little find.

Fitted by Keith and thought we would dive into the café when we read some decent reviews on Happy Cow. The café is located on the square and has a good location with free parking nearby. The café has a tasteful decor, a beautiful ambience and a pleasant staff. It is good that the menu identifies vegan and gluten-free choices, especially as my partner is vegan and GF. Two of the cakes were vegan (hooray! but unfortunately the only gluten-free choice was not vegan (boo! so we chose gluten-free sourdough and jam and avocado on toast (no pesto). For a menu that identifies vegan options to go with a vegan spread with toast is a no-brainier but the staff was uncertain if they had something. We were offered a vegan spread, but were not completely convinced that it was. The GF’sourdough’ looked suspiciously like ordinary white bread and was, what was served with the avocado so again, not convinced what we got, was either vegan or gluten-free, This is a nice café with good potential, but for us, not living to its reviews Hope will be in the future again in the hope that this was only a bad day in the office/bakery!
Big wee kieth caffe. nice menu and good, friendly service. prices also on the bag. parking is available on the street or on the square. worth a visit.
Great place to meet friends for lunch, delicious food and a lovely relaxed atmosphere, my friend and I spent along time here as we'd not see each other in years and the staff were super relaxed about us just hanging out and catching up. Recommend highly, thank you square roots!
Large coffee and white chocolate milk. had a wonderfully crisp and tasteful salate (only falafs), which is sometimes difficult to find in Scotland. friendly staff
The staff here was friendly, polite and helpful. I ordered a complete breakfast on the recommendation of the waitress, it proved to be a wise choice, it was one of the best breakfast I ever had. cooked for perfection, including my requested crispy speckles, and served on a large rectangular plate. I came very close to the plate to lick clean, it was so delicious 30 yds from an ew charging point, I could my car to top-up while I was upstairs. I'm back in the opposite direction.
