Description

Nestled within the Elgin Library complex, Cobbs Cafe offers a cozy atmosphere with large windows overlooking Cooper Park. Patrons enjoy a variety of homemade dishes, notably the creamy Cullen Skink soup, paired with a selection of baked goods. While many appreciate the friendly service, some have noted inconsistencies, particularly regarding gluten-free options and staff attentiveness. The cafe's snug setting adds charm but limits seating. Overall, Cobbs Cafe presents a delightful stop for quality food and coffee, attracting a diverse crowd despite minor service hiccups and the higher price point compared to its previous incarnation.

Cobbs is located in a section of the library in Elgin's Cooper Park. They offer a diverse menu of wraps, baked potatoes, and sandwiches. The food is delicious and the service is excellent. Additionally, their coffee is top-notch. The prices are very reasonable and if you visit after 12:00 noon, parking in the park is free.

I usually stop by this place after my parkrun to enjoy a Coffee and a GF Cake, as I am a Coeliac and know that Cobbs caters to my dietary needs. However, I was disappointed today. I entered the cafe and noticed a Gluten Free label on a tupperware container containing cup cakes, battenburg, and other cakes. I commented on the good selection of gluten free cakes, only to be informed that only the cup cake was actually gluten free. This meant that a GF cake was mixed in with regular cakes, increasing the risk of cross contamination. This is not typical for this establishment, but I felt it was worth mentioning as I could have easily picked a non GF cake and faced consequences. I ended up choosing a packet brownie instead. Hopefully, this was just an oversight and possibly due to new staff who may not have received allergy training yet.

I had lunch here with a friend. I had the chicken and rice soup with a wholemeal roll. It was delicious. I had a pot of fresh peppermint tea. My friend had tomato and sweet potato soup and a sandwich and red berry tea. Service was quick and efficient and it was great value for money. Next time I am in Elgin, I would definitely go again.

Cobbs is part of the library complex and overlooks Cooper Park and its lake. Our soups, vegetable and cullen skink, were very flavoursome and hot. Service was prompt. We returned there for tea and cake after we had explored Elgin. The date slice and Hawaiian slice were both tasty. The cafe was busy both times, a good indication of its popularity.

I understand this café has recently changed hands. I found it the perfect place to eat, delicious soup and sandwiches will certainly go back again.
