Philhellene restaurant offers a mixed bag of reviews from diners. Some found their dining experience to be underwhelming, with complaints of long wait times, small portions, and issues with payment processing. However, others praised the restaurant for its delicious food and friendly service, with particular appreciation for the classic Greek dishes and accommodating staff. This would be five stars. The food and people are authentic and go beyond what you see on the plate. So many of the vegetables are freshly grown locally, which is why a lot of the vegan options are seasonal. This takes great vegan food beyond just not eating animal products but also eating fresh. If you call in advance, you can also have a vegan lunch pack made up for take away. This is a restaurant I am happy to support.
I wish I could give this place 5 stars!! Sensational vegan options amazing flavors and textures, lovely staff too.
The amount of vegan options are here for your choosing. Delicious traditional food, amazing customer service, wonderful atmosphere all wrapped up in a authentic experience.
Delicious! Warm, welcoming service, with great traditional flavours. The lemon oregano potatoes were crispy and creamy, the moussaka was cheesy and packed with flavour.
I saw some very good reviews for this place, and was so excited to try the moussaka. It was really disappointing: bland, with lentils rather than vegan mince, however the cheesy top was nicely browned and a great texture. The potatoes were not crispy, just a boiled potato texture, and rather bland. The baked fava beans peas were the surprising best dish of the night, they were cooked in a tomato based sauce, and were flavourful. The Loukoumades. SO DISAPPOINTING. They didn't have a vegan substitute for honey, so they came dry, with something that looked like brown sugar but had a fluffy texture with just the tiniest hint of sweetness. It's bitterly disappointing that I haven't come across any good vegan Greek food in Melbourne, when I was so impressed with the vegan food scene in Athens, and when Greek cuisine has several traditionally vegan food.

The food wasn’t the best, the octopus was tough, they mixed the lamb with the chicken and potatoes and l don’t like lamb so it ruined the flavour of the other food, the baclava, which l love, was soft and soggy, the food was so salty l was drinking lemon water for the remainder of the night. The service is impeccable however unfortunately l was disappointed with the food.
Dinner for 6 and had the share platter. Absolutely mazing food and great service! Highly recommended

The most amazing Greek food ever, so much flavor! Local business needs our support more now then ever. Check these guys out, you ain’t be disappointed.
Incredible food, second time we’ve had takeaway here in recent weeks. Grilled platter was excellent, great charred flavour, and slow cooked lamb was a favourite. The most memorable dish was the grilled calamari on the olive tapenade and capers. Tender and bursting with flavour. Still thinking about it now. Great family business, locally owned. Highly recommend!
A homely, authentic and delicious Greek restaurant on Mt Alexander rd is all you need to know if you are planning on visiting.<br/ <br/ We ordered today a mixed and chicken souvlaki which went down an absolute treat. The chicken was the highlight, with a render, juicy and high quality taste whilst the lamb was good, albeit dry in SOME spots (only tiny portions were dry, the rest was very good). Compliment this with some well lathered potatoes, salad and tzatziki sauce and you have a recipe for a winner.<br/ <br/ Good food and happy experience overall. Good souvlakis, above standard by far!<br/ <br/ Food: 4/5<br/ Service: 4/5<br/ Ambience: 4/5<br/ Value: 4/5<br/ <br/ Overall: 4/5
Large portions of quite filling food. Good food and service all around, but the loukoumades were undercooked and on the bland side.<br/ <br/ Bare brick walls mean when the tables are full and people get loud, it can be hard to clearly hear people talking at your own table.
Went here last night for my wife's birthday on a recommendation from a friend and didn't leave disappointed. Great food, reasonable value, quick and friendly service and a nice venue. We had the banquet for 2 with saganaki extra the only negative was that they couldn't substitute saganaki in for something on the banquet. The dolmade and zucchini flower wad fresh and flavoursome, the dips accompanying the bread were very tasty, although a ricotta pillow was disappointing. From there, the spread of meats on the main platter and then then desserts were fresh and tasty. The service was very quick which was all the more noteworthy on a busy evening. Highly recommend.

We had dinner for two here Hospitable , prompt and entirely charming service thanks, Phoebe) Some interesting regional dishes differentiate from the usual Melbourne greek fare. Excellent dips and calamari. Very generous serves, and reasonable prices. A fairly limited wine list , but a good house shiraz from heathcote which matched the food . Altogether, a good package.
Reasonable meal nothing to write home about. My husband and I dined out for our wedding anniversary. Had to wait ages for dessert to be served. Finished our tea and coffee and finally after over 15 minutes dessert arrived. Some of the loukoumades were warm and and some were cold. Mentioned this to the staff member as we were paying, she didn't seem overly concerned. Then went to pay and despite using savings account was charged a surcharge fee even though I explained I was paying using savings. Tried twice and twice surcharge was added. Gave in and just paid. Underwhelmed. Won't be going back.
Very good Greek food and service. We were a party of 6. The food was fresh and delicious making an enjoyable experience. The swordfish special was generous and perfectly done complimented with a bottle of Greek red wine.
Evocative might be a better word than stylish for the title. Whilst this restaurant is both but humble. The service was friendly accurate and informative. We had the mixed dips for entree and these were made with care. The eggplant with the right amount of smoke and dill made a delicious addition to the Tzaziki. I had the Roasted Kidd for main and it was falling off the bone. My wife and daughter enjoyed thier mousaka and souvlaki. I look forward to returning,
