What User doesn't like about Le Poisson Rouge:
With a group of friends. Two out of the 5 meals were very good and 3 were poor. The major complaint was the fish was over cooked to the point of being dry. The consolation for some is that the restaurant is a bring your own wine restaurant. Unfortunately the price and uneven food makes it a poor choice. The dishes enjoyed by the group were the foie gras appetiser and the seared tuna. View all feedback.
We didn't actually eat at this restaurant, so I can't comment on the food. However, we did have ice cream from their walk up window twice during our stay. We would have gone more, but they were only open 2 of the nights we were visiting Montreal. They had pretty standard ice cream, but the toppings were the thing. It was explained to us that the chocolate used to make their sauces is created locally and uses no paraffin. The ladies at the window were wonderful!
As the name suggests, this friendly restaurant on the edge of Mont Royal specialises in fish and seafood which they cook excellently, too. Appealing choice of dishes and since you bring your own wine, it's terrific value. I had lobster bisque, then scallops as my main delicious! Altogether a restaurant not to be missed.

For people up from Vermont, this was a real local experience..great food..great price..gracious service..the chef came out and visited each table. This is a gem..I only wish I lived in Le Plateau!
We enjoyed two delightful evening at Le Poisson Rouge during our four night stay in Montreal. The staff was so warm and friendly during our first visit that we had to return for our final night! They made our two year old daughter feel right at home with an ice cream appetizer and crayons to keep her busy while my wife and I enjoyed a sumptuous feast. The Panfried StingRay, Escargot Salmon we're prepared brilliantly and the Pinot Noir was top shelf. The restaurant is only a 60 second walk from La Fontaine park, so we could enjoy a nice stroll afterwards. Thank you for your wonderful hospitality!
Some years ago this was one of the more popular places for eating seafood and bringing your own wine. It remains today a restaurant which is quite casual in its décor and service, has since set up an ice cream bar , but still provides an excellent meal with a set menu of five servings. While we give it a four star overall rating because of the décor and casual setting, the food deserves a five star rating. One other reason is the difficulty in parking in and around that neighborhood.
