We had dinner on a Saturday night, and everything was on point: wine, food, fast service. The only criticism we could make, is that the portions were quite small, so you might very well be hungry after the meal View all feedback.
What Aida Yost doesn't like about Le Bistro Urbain:
The restaurant is located on a main road which wasn't too bad though it can get quite loud.We both started with foie gras which was nice but the seasoning was missing a little something and there was no jam so it was a little over powering. Nice but jam would have tied it together. For the main I had the lamb and my girlfriend the tuna. The tuna was brilliant with a nice sauce but the lamb had no sauce and was on qui... We went after a high recommendation. The restaurant is on the ave that is now supposedly closed and only for trams. What a nightmare motorbikes were permanently going up and down, as were cars and other service vehicles. I could hardly hear the conversations going...on. It really ruined the evening. The food was also disappointing. Limited menu as every is fresh and menu changes weekly. Only two options for each course. My daughters starter with a poached egg was excellent my tartar a tad too acidic with the passion fruit. Main course rack of lamb tiny portions and the so called aubergine mille feuille was a brown appearance of aubergine puréed on a hard pastry. Desert was the only thing that was copious and good. All together a disappointing night especially when you go round the corner to all the delightful quiet little restaurants in the vieux Montpellier.

Very small, quaint place. Good selection of local wines, reasonably priced. Then the food came, we were blown away. No menus just a little chalk board with a small selection of daily local produce. I still cannot believe what came out of that kitchen, sublime...delicate flavours, pure and honest. This is worth a visit!
I wish I lived in the neighborhood, and this would be my favourite neighborhood joint for an excellent dinner. Small selection, but everything is fresh, light, delicious and the service comes with a smile
