No idea why rating is so high. Maybe we hit on an off day. Cheese grits were REALLY salty. Western omelet was very watery from veggies, sweating rather than sautéing causes this. Toast hard? How? And seriously, what sausage brand? It tastes likeChloraseptic. I'm sorry owners. Came here because the menu was a great concept, but the execution today was way off.
I stopped by this restaurant on my way to Destin, and it was delicious! If you visit, be sure to try their cheddar biscuits—they put Red Lobster's biscuits to shame! The staff is incredibly friendly as well!
The restaurant provides outstanding service and tasty food. We dined there at noon and left feeling very satisfied. Although the menu isn't extensive, every dish they serve is delightful. We sampled the crab and shrimp soup, the Philly cheesesteak, and a chicken salad, and all were fantastic. We also couldn't resist the tempting cookies and pastries showcased at the counter. A wonderful discovery!
During my month-long stay in The Gump, I experienced something new with this restaurant. The portion sizes were ample, and everything tasted fresh. The home fries were particularly fantastic, and I highly recommend trying the Cajun Omelette topped with a stew-like Gumbo—delicious! The coffee and orange juice were also good. However, we spent more time waiting than eating. We waited for menus (which were eventually taken from other tables), waited for coffee creamer (after asking twice, we had to get it from another table), waited for silverware (causing our coffee to cool down), waited a long time for our food (to be fair, the restaurant was quite busy at about 75% capacity), and waited for toast that never arrived. We also waited for coffee refills (which we had to ask another server for while almost finishing our meal), then waited to see if anyone would offer us dessert or anything else (it is a bakery after all), and finally waited for a to-go box (after asking twice, I just got it myself). The check came with the food, but there was no further interaction from our server after that. While all three staff members were very nice and reasonably responsive, they seemed a bit forgetful. If the service were more energetic and efficient, this place could be truly great. Ultimately, we enjoyed plenty of time to chat, and the food was good, but the service unfortunately detracted from the overall experience. #FirstAndLast
I had the pleasure of visiting for the first time, and I was pleasantly surprised. I tried the fried quail with cheese grits, which was perfectly light for a Saturday brunch. They also serve a nice Bloody Mary—well made, though nothing too extraordinary, but that’s perfectly fine. The service was excellent, with friendly and helpful staff. I hope you get the chance to visit! My only complaint is that the deli’s exterior feels a bit overgrown, making it hard to spot if you’re not already familiar with the location.
