Oji Sushi Sake - Montebello

I've visited this restaurant twice (I'm not a resident of LA) with a year between my visits. The food is fantastic for the price, and the service is decent. However, they should improve the demeanor of the person delivering the food to the table—the food arrives quickly, but without any friendliness. Despite this, I still awarded a 5-star review because I had a wonderful experience. It's definitely a place I'll return to!

On the plus side, the yellowtail was incredible—I definitely wish I had ordered more. The katsu was perfectly fried and paired well with just the right amount of sauce, although the vegetables were overcooked. The spicy tuna on crispy rice was memorable, and I will certainly be ordering that again!

This restaurant is quite small. We waited about 20 minutes for a booth; we could have sat outside, but it was pretty cold on a Saturday night, even with the outdoor heating. Once we were seated, we were asked what we would like to drink, and we initially just asked for water. I browsed the menu and decided to order a decent variety of rolls from the all-day Happy Hour section. Unfortunately, our waiter never returned, so I had to flag him down. I ordered the rolls and a pitcher of Sapporo beer, which was $9.99 compared to $2.99 for a pint—it just made more sense to get the pitcher. The rolls eventually arrived, and they were all delicious. I'll definitely come back when I have another sushi roll craving.

The sushi here is really good. We had the crazy Alaskan, tiger roll, and crispy shrimp tempura. The teriyaki chicken was bomb. We ate it instantly so I didn't take a picture. They have a sushi bar inside and outside seating. Service is consistent and friendly.
