Despite the restaurant being almost full, we were able to enjoy a private dining experience in a cozy corner. The service was efficient and the food was excellent! However, the kimchi fried rice wasn't to my liking, possibly due to my Indo-Chinese taste preferences. Overall, it was a fantastic dining experience!

The staff was attentive, friendly, engag... read more We had an amazing experience at HALCYON Montclair. I organized a bridal shower that was flawless from beginning to end. The staff was attentive, friendly, engaging, and extremely helpful. The food was beautifully prepared, plentiful, and absolutely delicious. Many guests raved that the chicken was the best they had ever tasted, others said the salmon was phenomenal, and a few couldn't stop talking about the pasta. Despite having several dietary restrictions, including celiacs, the staff handled everything like pros. The decor was fantastic and matched our theme perfectly. If you choose to have a party at HALCYON, you will not be disappointed. I am already looking forward to going back! This place is a great option for those with dietary restrictions, especially celiacs. We had five celiacs in our group and everyone was able to enjoy a delicious meal that catered to their needs.

The bar area is very elegant, and we each had a cocktail before dinner, (love the espresso Martinis) The food was wonderful, they always have a lovely, very fresh oysters, which was what we started with. The Paella was delicious, and is plenty for two people. Everyone loved their food, and the service was great. We sat in the booth style table, which accommodated 5 of us easily, and even though the restaurant was full, we could easily hear each other! This place has never disappointed, I highly recommend!

However, on our recent visit, we found some of our favorite dishes to be a bit off. Most disappointing was the ambiance. At a nearby table, a child (probably somewhere between 5-7) was watching an iPad while two adults and what appeared to be a somewhat grown child sat with them. The iPad was so loud, we could hear every detail above other tables, fairly loud music in the restaurant, and people at the bar. Issues pro/con iPads to entertain your children at the table aside, at what point should an expensive, fine dining establishment address noise from patrons that is obviously disturbing to others?

The price per person was between $30 and $50, but the quality of the food and service made it worth it. I would give the food, service, and atmosphere all a perfect 5 rating. Some dishes that I highly recommend trying are the Sushi & Sashimi, Grilled Oysters, Truffle Parmesan Fries, Margherita Flatbread, Miso Glazed Black Cod, Miso Salmon, and Grilled Octopus. Overall, I had a fantastic meal and would definitely return to this restaurant.

Love the fact they have such a wide range of dishes, including sushi, which is amazing!!! The service manager never misses a moment to show up as a rockstar, and the entire staff is top tier. They have an awesome burger and often deliver great seasonal specials, i.e., Watermelon gazpacho. Love the ambiance of the back patio and outdoor seating during the warm months, but the dining room is just as beautiful.

The service was wonderful and everything we ordered from the maki rolls, crabs cocktails, crab cakes that our 7 year old loves, and desserts were all so delicious. We will definitely come. Ack

The waiter was friendly. The prime rib was delicious with the sauce it came with. The side dish was absolutely tasty, with layers of potato, mushrooms, and cheese. The fish taco looked appetizing but lacked a bit of flavor. Unfortunately, there was an insect in my drink that I only discovered after taking a sip. However, the drink was promptly removed from the bill. Some other diners had issues with their meals but they were resolved. Overall, aside from these incidents, everything else was satisfactory.

We reserved the table at the last minute by my wife calling first, who has aforeign accent, and then I called 2 minutes later. When my wife called she was told 8:30. When I called I was told 7:30. What's up with that? ????
