A legend in the Monchique mountains with slow cooked leg and cheek of pork a favorite. This is the old Algarve
Amazing place for a weekend lunch. Reservations needed. Affordable menu. Big portions. The waiter recommended to order less and share. He was right. We shared 3 daily plates and returned with a doggy bag. With wine desert and coffee or 20 euros per person Totally recommended. I know I will return. We had roasted pork, lamb and javali (boar wild pig)
Read about the restaurant in Bon Appetit which stated it is in Monchique. It is not. It is at least 1/2 hour drive on small roads from Monchique. The restaurant was crowded and lively I felt like it was a good mix of locals and tourists probably who read the rave review in the magazine. The food and wine were generous, our servers were funny friendly and helpful. Be prepared to eat meat; we had a boar dish that was really good, not a vegetable in sight. Their house white was very good; quite inexpensive. All in all, a fun lunch in a strange location. Glad we went, would not make a special trip to go there unless you are going to Monchique for a hike.
