Had lunch at Castleroc a few days ago and would not recommend it for a few reasons: a service was below average, but I can attribute it to our lack of French; b I discovered a piece of shrimp shell (from someone else's dish or a poorly washed plate? in my ragout-type meat sauce and kindly pointed it out to the waiter, who waved it out as a minor thing not worth mentioning. It was not a minor thing to me and I was surprised at her nonchalant attitude given that the restaurant is not a cheap. The food was okay, but the impression is not very positive.

The setting is wonderful. The restaurant's terrace is right on the cliff edge at the top of Le Rocher, and there are lovely views through the trees down to the sea. Really nice atmosphere, and friendly and welcoming staff. Despite being just a few steps away from the Prince's Palace it didn't feel overtly touristy. The actual food could perhaps have been a bit better. I was really hoping to try some Monegasque specialities, which may have been challenging as a vegetarian it turned out their version of Barbajuans had meat in (I don't think that is the classic recipe), so instead I had burrata with tomatoes as a starter, which was fine but nothing particularly special or unique about it. For my main course, I thought I was ordering a risotto with trompette mushrooms based on the menu (maybe I misunderstood the French), but I couldn't detect any mushrooms in it, it was more like a risotto primavera. Mainly just rice and cream, a bit bland. Overall still a nice experience, but I wish the food had been a bit more special/unique.

I was thrilled to find this restaurant right opposite the castle. The food was exceptional, the service attentive and helpful, and the atmosphere and views excellent. My friend and I chose an outdoor table located at the back of the restaurant and has a magical view through the trees of the Mediterranean. Although there are many visitors in the area that visit the castle and other sights, you would never know from this terrace that is quiet and relaxing. The restaurant specializes in seafood, I had the scallops and my friend the huge shrimps with pasta, both were excellent. We also shared a half bottle of rose and our bill (including taxes and service) came to 110 euros; we thought this was a good value given the quality of food, service and location. This is not a cheap café, but a first-class restaurant that is comparable to anyone in a large city in the world. The main courses (in lunch) ranged from 25 40 euros. This restaurant becomes a regular stop when I am happy enough to visit Monaco.

Amazing staff, breath, view of the bay, great high quality food, one of the best experiences I ever had, we were there for a wedding, I highly recommend!

What a lunch, we sat on the terrace over one of the ports in Monaco, the sun shined and the blue sea glittered through the high trees. Staff were very welcoming and professional, great balance of kindness, fun and effective service. A rare combination that was well received. My wife and I shared a beautiful bottle of Chablis and had sardines to begin, followed by an excellently baked healed butter in a coat of salt. It was fantastic. We also tried two excellent deserts and an expresso. I can't praise this place enough, we'll be back.
