Mariana runs her small cafe beautifully, offering a diverse menu that includes vegan and gluten-free options. I have visited La Cotona multiple times and have always been pleased with the exceptional service, delicious food, fresh and hot coffee, and warm hospitality from the staff.
Initially, I was confused because the restaurant seemed to be catering to a different crowd and offering a variety of options. However, I was pleased to discover that Mariana is still in Mompiche, now at a place called Madre Selva, located right in front of La Cotona. The restaurant has a beautiful ambiance and offers a variety of vegan and vegetarian options. I had the vegan pasta and the lasagna, both of which were delicious.
We arrived to Mompiche super hungry for vegan options and were so happy to find Mariana and her delicious homemade food. My all-time favorite was the Burrito with aji, gives you all the power to discover the rainforest their little foundation El Aullador is protecting or to go surfing. The owners care about nature and organic food, be sure to taste some hot chocolate with self-made oatmilk (even if its not on the menu and enjoy the sight of colibris eating their breakfast too :
The perfect spot to grab a delicious smoothie bowl (try the Magic Bliss) is fantastic!! We also sampled their falafel wraps and French toast. Everything was excellent, but the smoothie bowls are a must-try! The current operating hours as of February 2023 are 10-2 and 4-8.
I had a delightful and healthy meal at 'La Cotona'. The chocolate cake made with organic cocoa, artisan bread, banana and coconut desserts, all grown by don Ramon and doña Juanita, were delicious. The coffee had a strong aroma and flavor, perfect for enjoying a good conversation at the table as the sun sets over the sea. Don Ramon and Doña Juanita are kind, conscious, and thoughtful individuals. The restaurant has a soulful atmosphere.
