I’m a huge fan of Ike’s and have visited many locations across two states. This one stands out as particularly special to me. The staff I’ve encountered here are incredibly nice. Earlier this year, I visited during an intense downpour and saw a young couple outside, shivering in the rain as they tried to sell small cacti for spare change. They had been displaced from their home due to violence, and their shelter was full for the night. I wanted to buy them some hot sandwiches, but I only had enough money for one in addition to my own. I took a leap of faith and asked the woman at the counter if they might have an extra sandwich that hadn’t been sold. To my surprise, she graciously made them an entire extra sandwich at no charge, so each of them received one.
This is a great sandwich shop and the sandwiches are great but sometimes they can be a miss depending on who is working/making your sandwiches.
I really enjoyed my sandwich from Ike's. The menu is slightly confusing as they only list meat and vegetarian options, but it seems that anything veg can be made vegan if you ask them to. My meatball sandwich had vegan cheese and a vegan spicy mayonnaise type sauce on it, along with fresh and pickled vegetables and it was really delicious!
I ordered a meatball sandwich, bread was excellent and the sauce out of this world.
I had a great experience with my sandwich from Ike's. The menu can be a bit confusing since it primarily features meat and vegetarian options, but it appears that all vegetarian selections can be made vegan upon request. My meatball sandwich came with vegan cheese and a spicy vegan mayo, topped with fresh, well-prepared vegetables, and it was absolutely delicious!

This place has a lot of different options for tasty vegan sandwiches, but for many of them you will need to specify that it needs to be vegan all the way and substitute vegan cheese for dairy cheese. That said, the sandwiches are delicious and filling. Most of the potato chip options I saw were also vegan. There is a sauce called “dirty sauce” that is vegan and can be used instead of mayo, and it’s really good. I don’t know what it is...a spicy aioli? The restaurant itself is clean and the workers are friendly. My husband went there 3 days in a row once I told him there is a new sub shop with vegan sandwiches near his work. Almost forgot, but there is a kids menu, and it also has vegan options, including vegan nuggets.
The place has the best sandwiches! They have so many vegan options! The biggest problem for me is that I love my favorite sandwich too much not to get it, so I haven't tried all the vegan options. Here it is: build your own sandwich with vegan chicken nuggets on dutch crunch bread, add buffalo sauce, vegan cheese, vegan dirty sauce, lettuce, and tomatoes. Sooo good and one of my number one cravings! I can also vouch for the vegan meatballs according to Peta the number one vegan meatballs in the country! Staff are friendly and work with you on ordering vegan. They always give you a lollipop with your meal. Usually they give you the blue one (which is vegan when you order a vegan sandwich, but sometimes they give you apple caramel (not vegan and you have to ask to trade it. It can be a little tricky to find if you don't know where you're going. It's in the little shopping center behind Rite Aid on McHenry and Briggsmore. Just turn in like you're going to Rite Aid and you'll find it tucked away. It's somewhat pricey for a sandwich (about 11 dollars but totally worth it! And if you have a student ID, bring it in between 3 and 5 from Monday to Friday for half off. Meat eaters love this place too, so you probably won't find yourself in too many arguments with meat eaters about choosing Ike's for lunch/dinner. :
I really enjoyed my sandwich by ike’s. the menu is easy to confuse as they list only meat and vegetarian options, but it seems that everything can be made veg vegan when they ask them. my meatball sandwich had vegan cheese and a vegan spicy mayonnaise art sauce on it, along with fresh and well-kept vegetables and it was really delicious!
This is a fantastic sandwich shop with delicious sandwiches, though the quality can vary at times based on who is preparing them.
