The food was all homemade and incredibly delicious. The staff were very friendly and polite. We enjoyed a 3-course Sunday lunch for £12.50, which was an excellent value for the quality of the meal. It is definitely worth a visit. View all feedback.
What Frank Smith doesn't like about White Gate:
We are local, first visit and last visit. People who ordered their meal after us were getting served first, we thought we had been forgotton. I have just been for a family birthday meal with people of us ordered mixed grill and a American combo the food was cold and my partner got a frozen corn on the cob we complained to the bar staff waitress who swapped this to a cooked one but then there was no onion rings on are plates the girl bought us onion rings but when we complained to management Adam Gibson the best he offered for frozen food and cold food without wat it states on menu was the next time we came we could have a free starter or desert lets be honest are we really going to go back for frozen food and raw steaks? I don't think so we have just spent over pound and I can definitely say its a expensive lesson learnt not to eat there again
As a regular diner at the White Gate over the years, I have seen many of its ups and downs. Management and staff have come and gone. I have seen it change hands from company to company, however quite recently something has happened to the place.Me and my wife were very intrigued by the introduction of the newest menu yet, brought in during the first week of november. And we were not disappointed. The portions have become bigger, the prices have come down yes, down! quite considerably. Yet strangely, the quality has increased drastically. I had the mixed grill, not expecting that not only is the steak bigger and a whole lot nicer, you also get more with it in the way of plate fillers, corn on the cob, mushrooms etc. My steak was cooked to perfection. My wife had their surf and turf, which also looked, smelled and by all accounts tasted fantastic. The plates were huge, warm and very well presented. As the main course had overfaced me, my wife had the only dessert the giant chocolate fudge cake, which speaks for itself. Once again, the presentation was excellent. We even had a drink thrown in with the price of the meal as it was their 'Buy a grill and get a free drink' day.The staff were extremely friendly, polite, professional and obviously welltrained. We were surprised by their knowledge of the menu contents, and were made immediately aware of the daily deals. The only bad point was the disruption from the neighboring table, although completely beyond the control of the staff or management. All in all, a great place to dine. People say you get what you pay for, although here you receive much, much more. The current manager has certainly done something right in very little time for us to have noticed such a positive change. A restaurant on the way up for sure
I have been a customer at the White Gate for many years. I have seen its ups and downs, managers have come and gone. Since very recently, when the current manager arrived, me and my wife were sceptic at first, but curious to give the place a try. And am I glad I tried it? A resounding yes! The launch of the new menu in the first week of November reintroduced the quailty and value of the good old days. I was particularly pleased to see the return of the sizzling plates although I am led to believe they are not a part of the original sizzlers chain. My steak was perfect, the chips were golden and the peas were fresh green. The size of the new mixed grill overfaced me, yet still the price is lower than before. As it was Thursday, I also had a drink thrown in with the price as part of one of their fantastic daily deals. My wife had the surf and turf, which was also of the highest standard. I had no room for dessert, but my wife had the giant fudge cake, which speaks for itself. Delicious. All in all, a very nice place to eat. People say you get what you pay for, but at this place you get so much more. Friendly staff who endeavour to cater to your every need and a warm atmosphere. Top notch all round. Glad to see the White Gate flying high again
Please ignore muppets rating badly. The new manager Andy is a great guy, the food and service excellent since he took over. Was just in for a birthday treat, had great food and a great time. Staff superb not to mention gorgeous
We are local, first visit and last visit. People who ordered their meal after us were getting served first, we thought we had been forgotton. The coffee arrive mins after the beer, foggy beer, coffee like it was from a greasy spoon, just in a mug no saucer. The masala was straight out of a jar, chicken was tough and very poorly presented. like a slop house nan was burnt and dry. Mixed grill, chicken was cold and thrown on as an after thought. The bar was like the mary celeste, only one teenage girl running it rushed off her feet, min wages probs too. Outstandingly bad. No sizzlers? Shame really they stopped doing it. Oh and the menus online were totally different to the menus in house, I was looking forward to a meal that didnt exist. Poor
