We happened to be in the area around opening time, so we decided to see if there were openings or if we could make a reservation to return on another day. We arrived right at 3:00 p.m., and we were able to get in without issue. We had the whole bars to ourselves for the entire time we were there, which was for about two hours. I love the use of local, seasonal ingredients, which is why Gen was on my list from the beginning. We thoroughly enjoyed all of the seven cocktails, everything was absolutely amazing! We also enjoyed being able to speak to the owner about the source of the products as he made our drinks. We’ve decided we have to visit frequently to see how the menu changes based on the season! I can’t wait to see what unique items we have next time. During this visit, we were amazed by the Laphroaig kakigori with ume and daikon! Talk about something spectacular!

The care and thought that goes into each drink is phenomenal. At the same time, having enjoyed the experience I do t know that I would go back; it felt like a perfect one and done session.

All the cocktails followed the same steps, choosing a fruit, muddling it through a strainer, adding 1 or 2 more ingredients and stirring with ice, that's it. This method keeps the bad parts in the fruit such as the bad granular texture in kiwis and in pears. The flavor combinations are rarely inventive in this tasting menu the place offers. I found the place lacks atmosphere, no music and no dimmed lights. The bartender served the drink one after the other with barely any time between and sometimes even when I still didn't finish my drink. This shows lack of attention to your guests or just lack of care, it's bluntly rude and shows that he's only there for the money, a thing that they are definitely taking out of you unproportionally to what you get. The cocktails are small and include very little spirit 7 cocktails are approximately like 2 glasses of wine and cost more than 4 real cocktails in any of the city's best bars. While accepting that bartenders can have bad days, by my experience, this place is a waste of your time, effort and money. You could go to better places and get a better everything.

If you want traditional cocktails this isn't a place for you. But if you are looking for something new and special you should definitely visit Gen Yamamoto. The cocktails were great, albeit unorthodox, and the barman was nice and professional. At first, I wanted to try 4 5 cocktails. But every drink was something special and every time I heard the ingredients I couldn't believe that this drink would taste good. But every time I was proven wrong. So I decided to go until the end to the 7th cocktail. And it was the best of them all. Just some of the ingredients that were used: mashed potatoes, wasabi with pineapple, garlic brandy.
