Let me tell you a story about some great food and service! We arrived for an all you can eat crab legs meal. And the food was hot and fresh! Additionally, we didn't have to wait for a long time in between servings! The staff did a great job of checking in with us but not bothering us too much while we enjoyed our meal. The place wasn't too crowded. But they looked d staffed to handle any busy rushes. Can't wait to go... View all feedback.
What Adrienne D doesn't like about Las Palmas:
Honestly, I'm going to try to keep this review very brief. I ordered Las Palmas via DoorDash. I ordered the barbecue wings the tacos and a side of rice and beans. Overall, everything was just really bland. The wings--bland. The tacos--bland. The beans and rice--bland. It was almost as if seasoning was an additional charge or something on the food. And I'm especially disappointed by the barbecue wings because I've nev... View all feedback.
This was the new restaurant of the week turn and some how I have been to just about every bar and restaurant in the area except this one. The place is festive looking with color all over and tile floors. They have a neat bar in back and a dining room in front with nice looking reddish tables and chairs. My service was great but the place was empty with the state fair going on. The menu has all the favorites and combination plates which I'm a big fan of but they all su%ked because so much of it was chicken, I don't want Mexican chicken so I went a la carte. I ordered a steak chimichanga, ground beef enchilada, Al pastor taco and beans/rice to make my awesome combination plate. I was promptly given chips and salsa, the chips were warm and crispy but not seasoned. The salsa was loose with no big/bold flavors but my nose did run a little. I ordered a blended strawberry margarita which tasted like a kiddie cocktail, very unimpressive. My server didn't ask and I assumed my taco would be a traditional corn with cilantro and onion but no it was a stupid Americanized on flour with lettuce, tomato and cheese, I really hate Americanized tacos and I wish my server would had asked me how I wanted my taco but no. The Al pastor meat was tender/moist, not dried out but average. The steak chimichanga was steak and gooey melty cheese with slightly seasoned tender steak but once again very average. The ground beef enchilada was covered in red sauce and melted cheese but once again very average, please give some bold flavors and seasonings. The beans had a nice bean flavor but kinda thin and skimpy. The rice had a weird flavor, a sharp flavor which I noticed right away like it might be bad but after mixing it with the beans and pouring salsa all over it it was ok and I didn't get sick. Overall I was not impressed with the bland unseasoned food even though it looks good that's catered to the masses, Americanized bland Mexican food is possibly why the place was empty. Now I'm not saying that the food is bad at all but it's underwhelming at best.
When you grow up with homemade tamales, it 's a lot for a restaurant to wow you. My family made the tamales wrapped in corn husk which is a different type of tamale altogether. I ordered through DoorDash and everything came fresh and delicious. Hands down Las Palmas made one of the best wet tamales (wrapped in banana leaves) I 've ever had. FULL of meat with a nice little kick. All I ordered were the tamales this time but I will not hesitate to order from here again based on this experience. I was surprised by the poor reviews listed here and wonder if maybe they 've turned things around now? Not sure, but I love the tamales.
And I'm especially disappointed by the barbecue wings because I've never had barbecue wings in my life that taste like nothing. There's sauce on the wings but there is no barbecue flavor present in these wings I don't know what flavor this would constitute as. Definitely will not be coming here again.
Just discovered a hidden gem in West Allis. Tried the Barbados Oaxaquena. The meat fell off the bone, wasn't too spicy where the different flavor gets drowned out nor was it bland. I requested a non alcoholic mixed drink as well and they obliged. Had a margarita and mojito made with fresh fruit which were awesome. There are other Mexican restaurants that are located on busier streets that may be more known, but this is the best local Mexican restaurant I've been to in area by far. Flavor stood out. Definitely recommend it if you're just interested in the food.
Food was gross enchiladas were mad with what looked like ground sausage dry sauce really sucked . Will never go back. When young owned it food was ten times better.
