Milan Sweets - Milpitas
Milan Sweets
Description
Milan offers a unique vegetarian dining experience with a diverse array of Indian snacks and desserts. While their Jalebis and Khandvi impress, some main dishes, such as paneer sizzler and manchurian, have received criticisms for their flavor and portion sizes. The ambiance remains pleasant, maintaining sanitary protocols since the pandemic. Patrons often rave about the quick service and delightful appetizers like aloo bonda and dhokla, yet note that many entrees lean towards a sweeter profile, which may not cater to all palates. For dessert lovers, however, Milan remains a tempting destination in the Bay Area.

The Indian food at this restaurant is not the best, but it is decent. One thing I liked about this place is that they have a nice variety of food, including an Indian sizzler that I have not seen anywhere else. While it didn't taste like the sizzlers I've had in India, it was still fairly tasty. It's worth giving a try, as everyone has different taste preferences. However, the Gujarati khandvi we ordered was not up to par; I have had better khandvi at other restaurants in Fremont. The ambience is not great, but it's not meant to be a fancy restaurant. It's more of a quick grab-and-go or eat-quickly-and-go kind of environment. Overall, I can't complain much as it's a no-frills restaurant. I would recommend it if you're looking for that kind of ambience and food.
I have not been here in quite some time so brought my mom for an early dinner/ late afternoon snack. We ordered Dahi puri, Mirch pakora, malai makhan paneer w/ naan. Dahi puri was decent, could have used tad more of sweet chutney. Mirch pakora decent as well. I like that was cut in half and also had some ajwain and seasoning, I would personally like a little more. This is the way my mom makes it, although I realize there are many regional variations. The jalapeños were quite thick however, so while breading /batter was crispy the chili felt a bit raw to the bite. Paneer malai this was downright disappointing. Gravy tasted sweet and sour, almost like it had some vinegar in it. It reminded me of Campbell condensed soup from the can. The bell peppers and onions were a bit crunchy to the bite and my mom felt it could have been chopped smaller to cook through more or cooked a bit longer. Looking around at other tables other dishes seemed to have similar orange gravy /sauce. I think we spent close to $35 on our meal, which is not breaking the bank but since food was not enjoyable felt like a disappointment and a little pricy for hole in the wall ambiance. If I return will not order entrees and stick to snacks and sweets.
Awesome sizzlers with either a pasta or a noodle base! Be aware though that the pasta sizzler does have honey in it, so if you cannot eat that, be sure to order it “Jain” style.
We visited Milan for the first time since COVID happened. They still have maintained the sanitation protocols, which is good. Their portion size has gone down. Most items will suffice just one person. However their snack items are still the same awesome! Those mathris and the jilebis are so yum! The shish kebab is nothing but a soft tikki. Paneer was good too.
