Mario's Island Cuisine - Middletown

I had ox tail, curried goat, and fried chicken, along with sides of sweet plantains and rice and peas. Everything was amazing!

I’m really done with Sister’s Island Cuisine in Middletown, NY. The meals are hit or miss, but unfortunately more often disappointing than enjoyable. As someone who knows how to make good Jamaican cuisine, I can confidently say this is far from it. Prices have increased while portion sizes have shrunk, and the food quality has deteriorated from bad to worse. The rice is either undercooked or mushy, and the meat is rushed, lacking flavor, with the oxtail often being tough. The same goes for the goat. Sometimes the dishes are either bland, overly salty, greasy, or just packed with too much pepper. It really feels like the cook is unhappy. Perhaps it's time for some competition? Maybe we should bring Mario out of retirement. I used to be a regular customer and I’ve even told them to their face that I won’t be coming back.

Jamaican cuisine is one of my favorites, and I love trying it out in different cities. The food was tasty, and the portions of meat were generous for the price. The service was somewhat slow, as there was only one person manning the register. The atmosphere was calm, with most customers opting for takeout. I would definitely dine here again.

If you want Jamaican food at a good price point and good portions this is the place for you. J chicken is always juicy and they give the sauce on the side if you want it that way. I ordered curry chicken for myself and stew beef for my husband. The food was delicious; but both meals consisted of more bones than meat.
