Fortunately, s... read more It all started badly when we couldn't find the place!. When we did, the door was locked! Went for a short walk but still locked when we got back. Fortunately, someone came out and I was informed they didn't open until which was strange...as we had an afternoon tea booked for We were taken inside and deposited in the bar downstairs Profuse apologies and a drink on the house whilst they tried to get things sorted I don't know who was measuring the drinks but I got a quadruple whisky The manageress was summoned from home and arrived about half an hour later. We were offered another drink but I declined (post whisky). They explained that they are having significant problems with the on-line booking system. Another minuutes and we were taken upstairs to Alchemy. A small room with tables round the outside and barrels in the centre. Quite small, probably only seats The door has a key-code which I didn't really grasp the significance of other than to keep the hoi-polloi out. (You must remember he code when going to the loo! Cocktails were fine , with a decent choice) and the afternoon tea was also adequate but there was a certain lack of atmosphere as we were the only two in others came in post Further apologies and another free cocktail made our evening. I would like to thank the manageress and the young lady on the bar downstairs for going beyond the call of duty to try to rectify the booking error. After a brief wait, we were eventually let... read more The evening got off to a rough start when we had trouble finding the restaurant and arrived to find the door locked. After a brief wait, we were eventually let in and informed that they wouldn't be opening until 7:00, despite our earlier reservation for afternoon tea at 5:15. We were offered a drink at the downstairs bar while they sorted things out, and I was given an unexpectedly strong whisky. The manager was called in to resolve the issue with their online booking system, and after a short wait, we were seated in a cozy upstairs room called Alchemy. Although the atmosphere was lacking due to being the only patrons, the cocktails and afternoon tea were satisfactory. We appreciated the efforts of the staff to make things right, and despite the initial hiccups, we found the experience to be good value for money. We are considering returning in the future. We opted for the Baltimore afternoon tea, which includes a cocktail for each person along with sandwiches, scones, and cupcakes. Everything was delicious, from the drinks to the food, and the atmosphere was fantastic. This would be a great option for Valentine's Day as it felt very personalized.
