Went to Selva Negra thinking it was a Cuban place. It is Nicaraguan. My wife and I ordered the grilled meats for 2 and received 2 sides per person. The platter contained pork and 3 styles of beef. All were excellent in flavor and texture. The portions were huge including the side dishes. My wife had 2 drinks and the bill came out to $38.00. How this place has not had a prior review I don't know. View all feedback.
What Jose Mendieta doesn't like about Selva Negra:
I’d like to give this restaurant 4 stars, but I’ll explain why it’s a 3. We had a family lunch on a busy Sunday afternoon with a party of 7. We ordered several dishes and 6 pitchers of sangria. The service, however, could use some improvement. Our server was friendly but not attentive; we often couldn’t locate her, so we had to ask 3 other servers for food, water, napkins, and so on. On the positive side, the food wa... View all feedback.
When our waiter finally approached us, we realized we didn’t have any menus and had to ask for them. After receiving our appetizers, we waited an entire hour for our main dishes. When the churrascos finally arrived, both were served raw and bloody despite our request for them to be well done. We returned one of the steaks, but it came back still undercooked. To top it off, a 15% tip was automatically added to our bill, though the service and food were far from satisfactory. Overall, I cannot recommend this restaurant to anyone.
The food was delicious, and the waiter was very accommodating. However, the manager was a bit bothersome, as he was yelling to the other waitstaff from our table. Everything tasted great, and the dishes arrived promptly and fresh. My steak was cooked medium, just as I requested. The only thing that prevented this from being a five-star experience was the leche de cacao, which was expired and had soured milk; I had to send it back. Additionally, the parking lot is quite small, so finding a parking spot may be a challenge.
This place was not what I expected. Food was mildly ok except for the 3 Leches that I must admit was exceptionally good the rest was not good at all. The waitress was no where near to be found and was a mission to order our food. Now, what I foundcompletely insulting was that the owner kept on asking after we finished eating are you done? would you like to order somethingelse? since we were there talking after we ate and not consuming more she wanted to free our table to keep accommodating morepeople. And she is the owner go figure the rest. Based on my experience I do not recommend this place.
It was my first time in here and I loved it.. the waitress was so nice and sweet, Frederick the manager is awesome, very polite and helpful, he noticed it was my birthday and he brought a piece of cake for me and the whole crew sang HB for me.. I?lldefinitely come back
The restaurant offers an à la carte menu with a wide variety of options. The food was good, but the tortilla dough was not cooked properly. The service was average. When it's time to pay, be sure to double-check your bill, as a 15% tip is automatically included. We were a party of three and found this charge added to our bill without prior notice.
