Islander And Grill - Miami

Ooooomg these Cuban Spring Rolls are fantastic. They should be a mandatory order for anyone eating here. You get 3 but I devoured two before remembering you fine people need to know about them. Please get!!

We stumbled upon the Islander Bar &Grill while we were waiting for a connecting flight. The staff was friendly and very knowledgeable about the nuances of their menu. We did not expect that at an airport! The food was surprisingly delicious! I had the Caribe Fish Tacos with blackened snapper a recommendation from our server and I was blown away! My husband had the Mahi Mahi Reuben sandwich. The Bimini bread and fish gave that sandwich a whole new twist! We loved it there and if good fortune takes us through Miami again, we will go back. Wish we had taken pictures. It was Big Food (large portions)!

I had the good fortune of eating at this fine establishment while I was waiting for a connecting flight home. The red snapper tacos far exceeded my expectations. They offer the fish fried, grilled, or blackened. I enjoy the blackened option with chips and spicy guacamole. If I could leave 10 stars I would definitely do so.

They gave me my the check with a “suggested” gratuity of 18% with the option of adding or subtracting the gratuity amount, but they charged me the 18% regardless of the amount I subtracted (I gave the waiter 15% gratuity since he offered me cheese but didn’t say it had an extra cost). It’s supposed to be suggested, not imposed. It’s a small difference but I didn’t like how they lied about the gratuity being suggested. Why have a space to modify the gratuity then? Not recommended; unethical.

Kevin D was my server and what a great guy. Friendly, always huge smile and excellent service. After flying all day he made my dinner meal enjoyable and will definitely be back . Everyone seemed nice here too.
