The Brown Pub - Methven
The Brown Pub
Description
The Brown Pub in Methven blends old‑style charm with lively nights — beer selection, live music/karaoke, a fireplace and cozy, budget rooms with shared kitchens and clean bathrooms. Locals are welcoming and the pub suits families, travellers and groups seeking value and atmosphere. Be aware food quality can be inconsistent (over‑salted or uninspired), service occasionally brusque, and Wi‑Fi weak. Still, it’s a warm, no‑frills spot for drinks, music and simple accommodation.

We loved staying here. This is a well maintained old pub. It was clean, warm , and comfortable . The veranda 'upstairs for in-house guests ' is an added bonus that overlooks the center of town . Great staff and service. Service: 5

A clean, friendly old style pub. The staff were warm and obliging. Room, beds and kitchen very clean. Enjoyed the company of other travellers also staying. A great atmosphere. The bar food was disappointing, no love in that food. But everything else was great. Judy McGee Service: 4
Sunday drive from Christchurch for a bite to eat. Not a great experience. Food was terrible. Just ordered bar snacks but couldn't finish due to it being so salty. Ordered I think it was called the bar basket or something like that. Had hardly nothing in it. Picture added is what came in it. They had salted it for me instead of me salting my own food. It was uneatable. Sausage was disgusting. Would not recommend this plate to anyone. No paper towels on the table or cutlery, plates were out down without a comment from staff. Left 90% on the plate and left. Also premix coke was flat.
