After reading old reviews, we decided to give this place a try. We have been coming to this restaurant every year for 17 years, but we hadn't stopped in a while. Like other reviewers, we were looking for something good to eat (not a chain restaurant). Sometimes we don't want to cook while on vacation. This charming little restaurant (40 seats) is a hidden gem. They don't use pre-packaged sauces for their meals, everything is made from scratch. I had the country fried steak, my wife had a fried egg sandwich, and our daughter had the biscuits and gravy. My meal was delicious, the eggs were cooked perfectly, and the steak was tender, just like my daughter's. My wife said the fried egg sandwich was excellent, even better than many popular places we've been to in the States. Our daughter had a half-order of biscuits and gravy, which filled up a whole plate. The biscuits were homemade and flaky, and the gravy was delicious. Even my 12-year-old daughter said it was the second best she's ever had, just behind a restaurant in Chicago! The diner is located in Merrifield on the main road, so you don't have to drive all the way to Brainerd or Baxter. It's definitely worth a visit, and we plan on stopping here during our annual trip to the beach. The prices are fair for the quality of food, and the staff is friendly. I would give this place 4.5 stars! The restaurant is very clean and provides a great dining experience for a diner.
