Hotellerie du Val d'Or - Mercurey

We were a group of and it was an excellent dinner. typical bourgogne specialties very well prepared : oeufs meurettes, chicks, huh with epoisses cheese, charollais meat, tattoo of aprikosen with rosemary,...and big wine. pleasant garden seat. everything in a small charming village.

Aurelie was the perfect host to make a brilliant trip to burgundy easier. she has a good knowledge about eating, weeping and experiencing in the environment and would not hesitate to organize her. we enjoyed eating in the hotel for several occasions...how and this not disappointed. the hotel itself is a good value for money and has a great breakfast. we drove around the opposite and were equipped with a safe area to leave our equipment.

A few years ago the Val d'Or lost its Michelin star, its chef and its management team, but now everything is back on track, with the restaurant establishing itself as the best that Mercurey has to offer, and it's well worth a visit. The menu...has been slowly expanding since the restaurant re-opened, and there is now a decent choice. The basic menu for three courses or for two) offers excellent choice at lunchtime, although unfortunately two dishes are stripped away in the evening, making options more restricted. The main menu, good value at for three courses, is much better, with a full choice of desserts from the a la carte menu. All the food was well presented and well cooked, although the main course needed a side accompaniment of gratin dauphinois or similar to add more liquid. The wine list was extensive and not over-priced, which is always a relief, showcasing plenty of Mercurey wines as well as offering a large selection from Burgundy and elsewhere. Eating outside in the summer is a delight, but the main dining room needs some serious redecoration, has an odd collection of wall paintings, flat lighting and lacks in any sort of atmosphere I'm sure it's on their To Do list. The owners have also redone some of the ageing hotel rooms, so there is now good value accommodation on offer as well, which is good news for anyone wanting to explore this beautiful part of southern Burgundy. Congratulations to the new team and keep up the effort!

Served in an unprepossessing courtyard, the food was uniformly extremely well presented and prepared with fine attention to detail. The veau sitting on a bed of fresh peas and broadbeans was delicious and the chocolate dessert a delight. highly recommended if you are in the...area.
